Sharknado Franchise To End with Time-Traveling Sixth Installment

It looks the sharp-toothed winds of Sharknado are about to come to an end. Syfy has greenlit a sixth and final installment of the campy sci-fi horror franchise, Deadline has confirmed.

The yet-to-be-titled sequel will bring back Ian Ziering, Tara Reid, Cassie Scerbo, and Vivica A. Fox. Five-time Sharknado helmer Anthony C. Ferrante will be back in the director’s chair for the grand finale.




The Sharknado movement started in 2013 and has since garnered a rabid cult fanbase on social media that ate up all of the franchise’s B-movie glory.

The first movie was followed by Sharknado 2: The Second One, which was a series-best reeling in 3.9 million viewers. This was followed by more installments with enjoyably absurd and obvious titles: Sharknado 3: Oh Hell No! and Sharknado: The 4th Awakens.




In Sharknado 5: Global Swarming, we last saw Finn (Ziering) walking the Earth all by his lonesome after it has been destroyed.

The sixth movie will have him traveling back in time to stop the first Sharknado that ushered in this cult franchise.

Syfy Sets Final Sharknado Installment for Summer

The postapocalptic/time-traveling Sharknado 6 will attack at 8 PM Sunday, August 19.

The cheeky and toothy franchise-ender will cap the net’s Sharknado Week (August 12-19).




SHARKNADO WEEK: Sunday, August 12 – Sunday, August 19

SHARKNADO WEEK returns to SYFY for its fifth annual week-long event focused on all things shark.

This year’s lineup will kick off the first night with Deep Blue Sea 2 and continue through the week with more action-packed, shark infested movies including Nightmare Shark and 6-Headed Shark Attack.

It all starts August 12 and culminates with the final movie of SYFY’s hit franchise, SHARKNADO 6.




SHARKNADO 6: Premieres Sunday, August 19 at 8/7c

Our hero Fin (Ian Ziering) has battled sharks all over the globe, but in this last installment he will tackle the final shark-tier — time travel. In the ending moments of SHARKNADO 5: GLOBAL SWARMING, Fin was seen wandering alone on Earth after it was destroyed.

Now he must travel back in time to stop the Sharknado that started it all. Will Fin and the gang be able to set everything right and save the world once and for all?

A production of The Asylum, SHARKNADO 6 is directed by Anthony C. Ferrante, based on an original screenplay by Scotty Mullen.
