"Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?" Gets Jeremy Clarkson as Host In UK Reboot
by Bruce Haring
March 8, 2018

This spring, unsure game show contestants may ask the audience, call a friend, or go 50/50 on their guess. But one thing is certain – Jeremy Clarkson will be hosting the UK version of "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?" when it returns to the airwaves this spring.

Clarkson replaces Chris Tarrant for the 20th anniversary of the quiz show, which was cancelled four years ago by ITV. He was formerly the host of "The Grand Tour".

The new version of the game show is being developed by Sony-owned Stellify Media, the production company that handled the reboot of "Blind Date" for Channel 5 and also has a Jackass-esque game show in the works for Netflix.

"Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?" previously ran on ITV between 1998 and 2014. It was co-created by Steven Knight, the creator of Peaky Blinders, along with David Briggs and Mike Whitehill.

The basic format of the show is unchanged: each contestant will have the opportunity to answer 15 questions as they build toward winning the £1 million grand prize. Along the journey, they can ask the audience, call a friend, or take a 50/50 option.

However, the producers have promised some new but unspecified twists in the revived program. The UK version will run seven one-hour episodes each week.

Jeremy Clarkson of Top Gear is gonna be the new host of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire in the UK? How exciting because I knew very little about Chris Tarrant when I first heard of him on Millionaire and I thought Chris Tarrant was a cool guy. Hopefully someday soon we will see an episode featuring Jeremy Clarkson and Chris Harrison playing together on Millionaire together in America. Would that be so cool to see?

"Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?" Returns to ITV with Jeremy Clarkson
by Peter White
Sept. 13, 2018

"Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?" is returning to British broadcaster ITV with ten new episodes.

"The Grand Tour’s" Jeremy Clarkson is once again hosting the stripped run following a series of anniversary specials earlier this year. The show relaunched in May with over 6M viewers and a 31% share.

The show will air in 2019 and will once again give members of the public the chance to win £1M.

Clarkson said, “I absolutely loved hosting the anniversary shows and cannot wait to spend a few precious hours away from James May and Richard Hammond, making the new ones.”

Stellify’s Matthew Worthy added, “Ask The Host is back. And a quick tip for future contestants: don’t use it on questions about fine art, haute cuisine or the scouting association.”

Jeremy Clarkson Set for More Episodes of "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?" and "Millionaire Hot Seat"
by K.J. Yossman
June 28, 2026

Jeremy Clarkson is set to return for more episodes of “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?” and spinoff “Millionaire Hot Seat” following news he is in remission from cancer.

U.K. network ITV has ordered 15 episodes of the flagship quiz show as well as 20 episodes of the “Hot Seat” spin-off, which launched in January this year and is also hosted by Clarkson.

The high-pressure game is given an added twist by requiring contestants to answer questions quickly in a fast-moving queue system or risk being replaced.

“The ‘Millionaire’ brand continues to deliver for ITV audiences and ‘Millionaire Hot Seat’ has brought an exciting new energy to the format,” ITV’s Katie Rawcliffe said in a statement.

“The combination of Jeremy Clarkson’s hosting and the high-pressure gameplay has proved a winning formula, so we’re delighted to be bringing both ‘Millionaire Hot Seat’ and ‘Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?’ back for more episodes.”
