Why was Family Ties set in Ohio? I mean ono offense to the people that live there, it's a great place and all, but for a TV show don't you think Ohio is a little dull? Why didn't they live in like California or New York. Well, every show is placed in those two states so how about Florida or amybe Pennsylvainia. But Ohio?

I'm not sure why, but I think Ohio is an important state for politics. My history teacher was talking about what states most of the Presidents have come from and Ohio was one of them. Maybe it has a lot of electoral votes.

Why not Ohio? I think that it would be unfair and unrealistic for every sitcom to take place in either New York or California.

I personally think that is one reason I don't (and never will) like some sitcoms. The setting is totally unrealistic. If every show took place in New York City it wouldn't make it look like a realistic show. Believe it or not there are families in Ohio. And you say Pennsylvania or Florida? Why those two? Pennsylvania seems just as boring as Ohio (I know I had an old teacher from there. ). Florida on the other hand just wouldn't have worked well with Alex's personality... I think. Anyway: My $0.02 for this topic.
Oh and one more thing:

Actually Ohio as 20 electoral votes which falls behind Florida (27), California (55), Illinois (21), Texas (34), and Pennsylvania (21). For one of the smaller states it has quite a few votes but remember. The number of votes a state gets is based on the population number of that state.

I agree. So many shows are set in either California or New York. People do live in the rest of the United States!
