I’m talking the type where a show tries some ridiculous gimmick in a blatant attempt to just generate a little buzz, most likely to temporarily revive sagging ratings.

You will get various opinions on this, but casting a woman as the next "Doctor Who" could be considered a gimmick. There were many ways to add more female characters without fundamentally changing a tradition of over 50 years. If we have seen 12 Doctors in a row be male over the course of 50 plus years it seems odd he's suddenly become a female with #13.

Like "Kevin Can Wait" killing off their lead female character (and not caring one bit!!) and bringing back Leah Remini to make it look like a "King Of Queens" reunion. That's not only gimmicky and dumb but also absolutely heartless!!
