Why is it this show is one of the few no longer available direct from Shout Factory? The market is flooded with bootlegs that a certain Canadian company has put out. This includes the Complete Series as well as the season sets. I know because I got taken in--from Amazon no less!

At least I got my money back, but I wish something could be done to put a stop to this. (These same hucksters are passing off Norman Lear sets as legit when they are clearly fake).

My set had plastic cases that were stiffer than usual. They also had different clips on the inside to hold the discs in, when my other Shout sets were uniform. The cover art looked laser-printed but the best way to tell is to check the Disc properties and see if it's a low number like 4.19. The official Shout discs have a higher MB like 7.74, etc.

How much did you pay for it?

Did you buy directly from Amazon or a seller on Amazon?

When I went shopping for it, both Amazon.com and Amazon.ca only had it available from Third Party sellers who were filling the order for them (since Amazon themselves were sold out I assume). Shout no longer has ANY Mister Ed releases on their own site. I paid $99 plus shipping.

Perhaps the Shout Factory Mister Ed DVD's are no longer in print. But there are sellers out there that are selling legit sets. You just have to do full research and be careful who you buy from. Right now on Amazon, CDWarehouseOnline has the Mister Ed complete series DVD new for $76 plus $3.99 shipping. I'm assuming this is a legit set, it seems to me that it is.

And right now on Ebay, I see there's a seller who has the Mister Ed complete series DVD factory sealed and new for $52.64 plus $3.68 shipping. The seller has included pictures of the item, and it sure looks like the legit product to me. I bought the complete series a few years ago after it came out.

Another classic TV show DVD that appears to be discontinued by Shout Factory is The Bill Cosby Show. Maybe they discontinued it due to the bad publicity about Bill Cosby. I have the DVD's of both seasons, the picture quality is good but the audio could be better. The audio level in the episodes is too soft and a few episodes have distortion in the audio track.

There definitely seems to be something going on with the Mister Ed rights. Besides the box set appearing to be OOP, Mister Ed is no longer available to buy on iTunes and Amazon Video.

Does Disney own it now?

This is why I don't buy from third party sellers on Amazon or Ebay anymore. I have been ripped off one time too many and will not continue being a fool. While I do eventually get my money back, the hassle just isn't worth it for a so called deal. These sellers will quickly answer your questions when you want to purchase something, but ignore you like the plague once you've caught on to their scam. For that reason I will order directly from Amazon (the warehouse, not third party), Shout Factory, Best Buy, etc. My last time being ripped off was with the Growing Pains DVD set and I got so mad that I have blacklisted Ebay for any further purchases. Until they get rid of those hundreds of bootleggers they have on their site, they have lost all credibility as a website for shopping.

I understand where you're coming from but in my case Shout Factory no longer had Mister Ed for sale on their site. The only option was eBay (which was a no-no) or Amazon. I figured Amazon at least would be more reputable. They should not be letting those counterfeiters peddle their wares on the site. At least I got my $ back but had to go search for individual season sets elsewhere.
