Actually, Norman Lear wasn't involved w/ "Archie Bunker's Place" and didn't want it to happen. Carroll O'Connor pushed for the continuation.

As far as the "All in the Family" universe goes, Sally Struthers' "Gloria" spin-off isn't on DVD (Lear had no involvement).

Also, the short-lived "704 Hauser" isn't on DVD (except for the pilot that was included in All in the Family's complete series box set).

Norman Lear was not involved with ABP on a day-to-day basis, as he was with “All in the Family”. And he initially didn’t want it to happen (he didn’t want the ninth season of AITF to happen either).

But the show was owned by Lear’s Tandem Productions, and Lear was still involved in creative decisions, such as the move to kill off Edith, and the idea to have Archie marry a much younger woman if the show had returned for a fifth season (Lear later used this idea his show “Sunday Dinner”).
