View Full Version : Isn't this the only Lear sitcom... tlc38tlc38 02-11-2018, 02:37 PM ...to not be released on DVD by Shout! Factory? They need to complete the Bunker legacy. JamesG 02-11-2018, 04:17 PM Actually, Norman Lear wasn't involved w/ "Archie Bunker's Place" and didn't want it to happen. Carroll O'Connor pushed for the continuation. https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/live-feed/norman-lear-archie-bunkers-place-858373 As far as the "All in the Family" universe goes, Sally Struthers' "Gloria" spin-off isn't on DVD (Lear had no involvement). Also, the short-lived "704 Hauser" isn't on DVD (except for the pilot that was included in All in the Family's complete series box set). Unrelated to "All in the Family", a lot of Lear's short-lived shows aren't on DVD: "Hot l Baltimore" "The Dumplings" "All's Fair" "All That Glitters" "Fernwood 2 Night" / "America 2-Night" "The Baxters" "a.k.a. Pablo" "Sunday Dinner" "The Powers That Be" "Channel Umptee-3" tlc38tlc38 02-11-2018, 05:06 PM ^10 episodes of "Fernwood 2 Night" is on the "Mary Hartman" complete set. TV Guy 02-11-2018, 11:00 PM Norman Lear was not involved with ABP on a day-to-day basis, as he was with “All in the Family”. And he initially didn’t want it to happen (he didn’t want the ninth season of AITF to happen either). But the show was owned by Lear’s Tandem Productions, and Lear was still involved in creative decisions, such as the move to kill off Edith, and the idea to have Archie marry a much younger woman if the show had returned for a fifth season (Lear later used this idea his show “Sunday Dinner”). |
