I wish Dixie Carter would have stayed on Diff’rent Strokes - Season 8. She was fantastic! I don’t know why she didn’t stay on for their last season. Designing Women didn’t start until September 1986. Diff’rent Strokes - Season 8 was on from September 1985 - March 1986. She could have stayed for their last season. Dixie Carter by far was the better actress to play Maggie.

I think I heard somewhere that she and Gary Coleman didn’t get along and that was why she left. I liked Dixie better too.

Designing Women’s shooting schedule might have started early in 1986, so she didn’t have time for both shows.

I would have made a better Maggie than Mary Ann Mobley. So the bar wasn’t that high.

Seriously, what were they thinking when they cast her?
