Watching my Beaver DVDs in episode guide order today I watched 6 season episode "Tell It To Ella". There were 2 new never before seen "old" friends of Beaver (apparently Richard and Gilbert & Whitey have all moved out of the neighborhood?) Michael & Kevin. If my picture showed up below, the kid on the left, the taller one, was good. He had a smile that looked like he was holding back laughing at what he was saying. I thought this was great, you never see a kid laughing at the kooky conversations he's having with his friends. It looked like he was about to burst out laughing.:lol:

I have to watch that one again. I always thought Michael was the one always smiling but do remember Kevin always has that goofy look. Maybe he was trying to stifle a gaffaw. Funny how Michael winds up with quite an acting career.

I don't know if the tall kid on the left in that picture is named Michael or Kevin, doesn't matter, all I know is he's the one who seems to be holding back laughter. I haven't seen kids in Beaver before seemingly holding in laughing. Though :rolleyes: at times Whitey seemed to be holding in a little laughing too, come to think of it.:talk:

True about Whitey...and any time he gave an answer to Miss Landers, he'd even openly grin. I'm with you, Michael, Kevin, Joe Schmoe, I can't keep up with Beaver's sudden new friends in season 6. Actually, it started in season 5 in the baseball episode with Don Drysdale...Gilbert was in it, and some other kid I'd never seen before. And what happened to Richard in season 6? I think he was only in one or two episodes.

That was Alan Boothby who was there calling Drysdale and in the Sweatshirt Monster one with Richard. Perhaps he was the brother of Evelyn. Bill Boothby worked in Ward’s office in Lumpy’s Car Trouble but in Wally Goes Steady Ward doesn’t know him well. Richard was in Three Boys and a Burro. Whitey was in all the seasons.

Speaking of Beaver’s friends, wouldn’t it have been entertaining if they brought back Larry in the one when Jackie Waters visits and he and Beaver have very little in common. We had never heard of Jackie (rude boy) before so why not Larry. They could show Beaver still gullible and Larry could get him in more trouble. Mrs. Mondello could say her husband was back in Cincinnati where they finally moved to. The possibilities are endless.

Oh, yes, the Boothbys...we had never heard of them until Ward met him in the golf clubhouse, and later we find out he works in Ward's office. In the one where Evelyn was going to drive Wally to the dance, Bill is played by a different guy.

Was Alan in any of the season 6 episodes (I don't think so). I think the Boothbys were relegated to season 5...I don't think we see Evelyn again, either.

That Jackie Waters episode was a loser, mostly because they made a lousy pick for a kid actor. The Larry idea would have been a good one, if they could have put up with Rusty's mother for one more episode.

Come to think of it, in Sweatshirt Monsters, didn't Alan's father (as did the other parents) stop him from going out in the sweatshirt? Assuming they're the same Boothbys, that was a third actor, I think.

Yup Alan’s father was in the scene but only pointed so they didn’t have to pay much. The writers loved the same names like Thompson, Henderson, Harrison, Boothby.

Agreed about Jackie Waters, not a very good actor. Larry would have been a fun little goodbye. Seems the only character to get a goodbye episode was Penny.

Of the Season 5 and 6 friends I liked Alan well enough. Mike and Kevin were blah, they didn't really have personalities.

I guess that's why in those later seasons, except for a few episodes, I preferred the Wally/Eddie-centric episodes.

Yeah, Alan was in only 3 episodes in Season 5, none of the later season friends lasted long.

There was a friend of Beaver's named Alan in the 6th season "Uncle Billy's Visit." Like all of Beaver's "friends," he suckered Beaver, as Gilbert had asked them to open the emergency door for Gilbert to sneak in, and Alan made up an excuse for why he didn't do that himself, but Beaver "promised" Gilbert. Beaver did not, of course, but as usual woudn't stand his ground and he did open the door and they got caught. This Alan looked different from the previous one, but I tend to think we are to assume he is the same character.

And, as in "Long Distance Call," Alan Gilbert & Beaver is not a law firm.

Yeah, now that you mention it, I remember that Alan in the Uncle Billy episode. I think you're right that he's a different actor than the Alan in Long Distance Call.

That Alan wasn’t supposed to be Boothby he was just “Alan.” He certainly told Beaver to sneak Gilbert in then seemed to act like he wasn’t involved. He was in another episode but had very few lines. The kid who makes me laugh was in Long Distance Call who has the newspaper father and tells him about Drysdale. Kid had a funny accent.

The kid that plays Alan in the Uncle Billy episode is also in Long Distance Call, but is just a minor character with no first name.
