In music today I have been noticing that it is now hard to find good rap artists and good rap groups that actually sound great and I would like to know why this is? Is this because rap music is changing it's image or is it because the rap artists today want to update their image to get people to buy their albums? Take for instance when Sugar Hill Gang debuted the rap classic Rappers Delight in 1979 this song was the start of rap groups that would be huge and when Kurtis Blow had a hit with the song The Breaks in the 80's it showed that rap artists could be successful in music. And so when LL Cool J debuted in the 80's he became a huge rap artist and even today he's still a successful rap star. Female rap artists started to be huge in music and when Queen Latifah released her debut album in 1989 she had proved to be a success and still is a role model for female rap artists today. But when stars like MC Hammer and Kid And Play and DJ Jazzy Jeff And The Fresh Prince became popular they had rap music that everyone could listen to and sing along with. And Will Smith is still popular in music and has become more successful than ever. But if you look at rap artists today you will never find another MC Hammer or another Will Smith in music. I think good rap music and good rap artists should make a comeback and rap groups should make rap music with fun lyrics that anyone can sing along with
