No not currently, but my mom was telling me there was a big uproar over Wheel of Fortune wanting to fire Vanna White for a younger letter turner. Does anyone know or remember when this was?

I can't imagine them EVER wanting to fire Vanna. Given that she's still such a huge part of the show's popularity.

i vaguely remember something about this - I don't remember if it was something that the producers of the show had actually considered or if it was just a rumor, but I think it might have happened around the time those lingerie photos of her came out in some magazine and people started a letter-writing campaign to get the show to keep her.

Chuck Woolery originally hosted Wheel of Fortune. I would love to see his version as Greed is one of my favorite game shows and I also like his Lingo. Art Fleming originally hosted Jeopardy!

Apparently you've never seen 60s/70s Jeopardy or 70s/very early 80s Wheel. Like Cat said, neither one is original. Vanna isn't even the original letter turner. That was Susan Stafford.

With Vanna's money, she could easily afford to support herself without working as the letter turner.
Take care and God bless

She's not turned letters in several years. She just taps a touchscreen.

Actually, the electronic board made its debut on February 24, 1997.

I recall there being some backlash when she posed for Playboy's cover.

I’d say that technically, Alex Trebek is the original host of this version of Jeopardy, which debuted in 1984. Art Fleming’s version last aired in 1978.

But Wheel has been around continuously since 1975, and Chuck is the original host. I guess you could say that Pat is the original host of the syndicated version. But I don’t make that distinction because it started running while the original was on NBC, and Pat hosted them both for a while.

Chuck was a great host - very natural. I hoped he would succeed Bob Barker on The Price is Right, but CBS wanted someone younger.
