View Full Version : Question about UM on Amazon prime
SDR-1970 01-10-2018, 05:33 AM Hi guys. I am very very new to amazon prime, and I have a question that's bugging me. God forbid, if/when UM becomes unavailable in the future on amazon prime, is there a way we can keep episodes of the show indefinitely on our devices? Would it be better buying episodes, or just subscribe to Amazon instead?
Many thanks
drew790 01-10-2018, 09:16 AM For me, unsubscribe.
The DVDs of compiled segments have 90% of what ended up in the Prime version.

I've been wondering this, as well. I'd love to construct a complete set, with the Amazon versions (for the updates and...obviously...better recording clarity) along with the bootlegs for the unavailable segments. Just because of...um......science.
TheCars1986 01-10-2018, 11:20 AM I'm sure someone is going to bootleg all of the seasons onto a DVD somewhere down the line. But if you look hard enough, you can find the old compilation DVDs.
tarheelslim 01-10-2018, 03:51 PM From what I recall, someone in one of the older Prime threads indicated that when you "buy" an episode from Amazon, you are still required to watch it through some sort of proprietary player. I can't say if this is true or not, but it was mentioned that you can't just burn a DVD from the purchase.
I assume there would be some way to rip the streaming video but I don't know anything about that.
I think these episodes will become MORE available over time though, not less. I still figure at some point Filmrise will be putting them on Youtube (like they already did with the Farinas), and at that point ripping your own gets easy.

I agree with this comment. Since the Stack episodes have been released on Amazon Prime, I notice that Hulu has them. Not only Hulu, but they are also available on FilmRise's free streaming channel, in addition to a couple of others. I want to say the Roku Channel, but if it's not, it's going to be something like TubiTV or Crackle. When I figure it out, I'll post it on here so you guys can watch for free if you haven't been already...

They'll definitely be more available, but I believe the question is if we're able to actually download them to have on their own, unless I misunderstood. Which is my question, too. Because we'll inevitably have a day where suddenly these get yanked.

They're most likely encrypted so ripping it probably isn't an option either.
AriadneHaze 01-10-2018, 05:47 PM Why is season 10 so short on Amazon? Only 10 episodes? Are there some missing?

Every Amazon episode has been backed up digitally. I assure that these versions are always going to be available, if you know what I mean. ✌️
drew790 01-11-2018, 12:14 AM I wish the Canadian version of Amazon Prime allowed download like the US prime or iTunes do. It's essentially a rebranded Netflix.
That said what I really wish is for the scene groups to, you know ...
LooksLikeCRicci 01-11-2018, 01:12 PM All 12 seasons of UM are available to watch for free if you have the Roku channel.
Had to check last night, as I knew I had seen it somewhere streaming for free...
NCRavensFan86 01-13-2018, 11:40 PM Why is season 10 so short on Amazon? Only 10 episodes? Are there some missing?
Season 10 contains the 2 short CBS Seasons, CBS only produced 12 episodes over 2 Seasons. Amazon cut away about 2 episodes worth of segments from the original 12. Hence, you get only 10 episodes for Season 10.
SDR-1970 01-18-2018, 07:36 AM I think these episodes will become MORE available over time though, not less. I still figure at some point Filmrise will be putting them on Youtube (like they already did with the Farinas), and at that point ripping your own gets easy. I emailed filmrise just the other day, asking if they plan to upload the Robert Stack episodes anytime in the near future, & they told me they have no plans to do so anytime soon.
nicoge21 01-19-2018, 12:15 AM All this Amazon prime stuff is just the tip of the iceberg. What about ultra rare stuff like the interview Robert stack did with Jennifer Pratt? Live at the telecenter. Or the full uncut alcatraz prison special?

All the stuff missing from the Amazon Prime remastered release is another story. But if your wishing for the stuff you mentioned above. Sadly the only way you will be able to obtain it is through bootleg DVDs,finding undercover YouTube channels, scouring the internet,n finding other UM fanatics who may have it.
Hot Jock 01-19-2018, 09:42 PM The picture and especially the audio quality of the FilmRise segments makes the bootleg/VHS/compressed to Hell versions of UM all but unwatchable to me. We got lucky with the work they put into this tbh.

Yeah I am thinking more like 2020 probably for the Stacks to hit youtube, they're still relatively new

The Prime eps are not the tip of the iceberg: they are the iceberg. If they were the tip that would imply there's much more than is currently available which is the opposite of what we've got.
It is unlikely that anything they didn't put out on Prime will ever be officially available again.
LooksLikeCRicci 01-31-2018, 05:08 PM While I would love to see the original UM specials make the cut and be featured in HD... I think it's most likely not going to happen.
