I thought this might fun and interesting. Let's post stories about stuff that has happened to us that we can't figure out what happened or we don't know the what or the why to it. It can be about you or somebody in your family or a friend if you want. I'll start with one of my own. And I'll try to keep it short.
OK so I'm the product of unwed teenagers and I was given up for adoption and my foster parents legally adopted me when I was 4 years old (having had me since I was about 6 weeks old). As probably most people know when that happens they issue a new birth certificate with the adoptive parents names on it in place of the birth parent(s). All the other relevant information is left the same (place of birth, time of birth and child's weight and doctor's name). My mom always kept track of stuff like that and kept it in a safe place. I eventually got my birth certificate several years after my Mom died (because you know sometimes you'll need your birth certificate for certain legal reasons). One of my brother's and his wife had cleaned out Dad and Mom's house and had a lot of important papers and so on. Well I was looking at it one day when I was going through the drawer where I keep it along with some other important documents. And it suddenly dawned on me there was an important bit of information missing from it. It has the hospital I was born at, what time I was born at, the name of the doctor who delivered me, my date of birth, and of course Mom and Dad's names. But there's nothing on it about how long I was or what my weight was at birth. And I just can't imagine how that all got left off of it. I was talking to a niece about it one time and she came up with what I think is a plausible and possible explanation. I was also born with a serious birth defect called spina bifida. Now without going into a lot of details let's just say that there are medical issues that are very serious and if not addressed right away there's a good chance you'll die. So my niece figures they saw I had spina bifida (there are physical issues that are obvious from the moment you're born) and they rushed me off to an operating room for some very necessary emergency surgery without measuring or weighing me. And the staff just got so busy with taking care of my physical problems that by the time anybody realized it hadn't been done it was probably several days after and there just wasn't any point in doing it anymore. Whatever might've happened it ends up that I'll never know exactly how much I weighed when I was born. But I was probably a little on the small side because I know from my late birth mother I was about 2 weeks premature. Which is quite common with babies with serious birth defects.
So I look forward to other people's stories and maybe some of us can think of possible explanations for what happened with some of these incidents. :)
