Lumpy was such a miserable person to torture poor Beaver. He bullied both Wally and Beaver not letting them go by his house. He terrorized Beaver and accused him of stealing his watch and extort money. He told him how they would make a huge hole in his tooth with a huge drill and once again terrorized him. What a total creep. Eddie did stuff too but Lumpy did it to a young Beaver.

I’m glad Lumpy was left back, couldn’t get a girl to go out with him, lost his scholarship, got a failing grade on history test, got his car keys taken away and had a father like Fred. Am I wrong?

No. Lumpy was a creep, just like that creep Larry who I'm glad was written out of Leave It to Beaver. Both were useless characters.

Definitely nothing useless about either characters, some of the Larry-centric episodes were the best of the early seasons. And Lumpy was a fun character, hilarious interaction between his dad and him, and he and Beaver. The show would have been dull without either character.

Beaver forgave him, I'm assuming since he borrowed some of Lumpy's comic books.;)

Lumpy was meaner in his early appearances, I agree, he was definitely a bully in those two early season episodes.

I didn’t mean to get rid of Lumpy, just that he should have been taken to task for his hostile activity toward Beaver. When he came over to apologize for trying to accuse Beaver of taking his watch, Ward should have let June have 5 minutes with Lumpy. She would have taken him apart. He really should have been pulverized. As for Larry well I loved that guy.

Lumpy was originally supposed to be a few years older than Wally, so even older than Beaver. He was apparently held back even more than Wally, if it took him the full 6 years/seasons of the show to advance 2 or 3 grades. As the show went on, Lumpy went from tormenting bully to oafish friend of Wally & Eddie.

BTW, I guess Wally was a better student than Beaver because he took 6 years to get through 5 grades (8-12), where Beaver had to complete 7 grades (2-8) in the same amount of time.

Larry is my favorite non-Cleaver character on the show.

Lumpy had a good purpose on the show. He started out as a bully but seemed to mellow as the years progressed. In the later years you can see he's an alright guy and the interactions with his father are hilarious. His home life may be the cause of Lumpy's more questionable behavior.

Larry was fantastic. The show lost a lot when he left and none of Beaver's other classmates came close to replacing him properly.

Yep, Lumpy morphed from a bully to a big, mellow guy. Think about him taking Eddie over to Cindy's Andrews' house, and doing that zoom, zoom, zooma, zoom thing. Yep, mellow, and a little silly...

OH Nuts!

The name Lumpy was no misnomer. He was a lump all right. I’d call him a dim bulb but he wasn’t that bright!
