Instead of being bigoted, Al Bundy was essentially the sexist cretin version of Archie Bunker (they even have the same initials!). And both shows were seemingly designed to more than often make you laugh at them instead of with them. And also the entire Bundy family when you really think about it, felt like a subversive satire of the typical sitcom family of that time frame. There was Kelly being dumb as bricks, Bud being a pathetic horn-dog, and Peggy oddly being the most normal of the bunch (but none the less, a lazy, slovenly housewife).

No since they never really tackled controversial topics more like a live action especially in the 90's version of Loony Tunes.

I think Al Bundy was definitely meant to be similar to Archie Bunker.

When Al says, "I think we stole his money, Peg" in "The Old College Try," he does remind me of Archie Bunker. Something about how he wrinkles his forehead.
