I hope they explain why Dan is there because we know he died of a heart attack.

Laurie Metlcalf on a recent podcast (https://www.theringer.com/2017/12/7/16749746/fear-tv-dark-and-channel-zero-plus-laurie-metcalf-on-lady-bird-and-roseanne) said they're just ignoring the last 2 seasons. That could mean the last 3 or 4 seasons, she didn't sound that familiar with the timeline of the original series. And there has been no mention of Andy or Jerry (most likely they don't exist). She did say Dan's death will be addressed. The impression I got is that it will be some kind of breaking the 4th wall joke.
The Roseanne revival aims to bring an “honest family” back to television — “something that doesn’t really exist on TV anymore” (http://ew.com/tv/2018/01/04/roseanne-ew-cover/)
Executive producer Bruce Helford, a former Roseanne writer who went on to co-create The Drew Carey Show, runs the revival's writers' room featuring such big names as Wanda Sykes, Whitney Cummings, former Roseanne writer Norm Macdonald and Roseanne Barr herself. “We want everybody to see something that doesn’t really exist on TV anymore, which is an honest family,” he says. “There’s not much of that. Everything is higher-toned or more niche. These people are very much in the core of what’s going on in the country right now.” ALSO: See a bunch more Roseanne revival set pics (http://ew.com/tv/roseanne-cover-exclusive-images/the-return-of-a-classic/).
