The CW series doesn’t need murder to be a great mystery, says Kaitlin Thomas. “What the first half of this season revealed — or perhaps it would be more accurate to say doubled down on given the overarching narrative of the show's first season — is that Riverdale hasn't quite learned to balance a well-plotted murder mystery with intriguing, well-rounded narratives for its individual characters,” she says. “And honestly, it shouldn't have to try to be that show; Riverdale does not need a dead body to be successful.”

“It’s no secret that some teens have sex,” says Gianluca Russo. “However, the voyeuristic way Riverdale (https://www.tvtattle.com/topic/Riverdale-AZNf26) has decided to up the sexual ante as of late feels like a strange way to capitalize on a classic ‘sex sells’ trope, a narrative device with a long history, especially where teen soaps are involved…Yet while shows are entirely within their right to acknowledge the fact that yes, teenagers can be sexually active, it’s worrying that storylines would dive into these themes without moving the plot along in a meaningful way.” ALSO: Lili Reinhart defends her controversial Riverdale striptease. We're not in the 50s anymore. As long as they do it right it's okay.
