I have probably said it before here but I love college football and it’s now in season. Love it! I usually watch the highlights from YouTube however which suits me fine.

One thing that really annoys me is the announcers. On so many levels. To me it’s like being in a theater watching a movie and there are two or three guys behind you who won’t shut up. Also in a game they are always telling me what is happening in the game when I am watching the game. What are the point of announcers? So the blind can follow the game also? Some are worse than others and it makes me wonder if they aren’t doing lines during commercial breaks because all they do is talk, talk, talk, talk, talk. I get so sick of them I turn the sound off. I don’t like that because I like the crowd noises and reactions. I would really just like the experience of watching the game like I was there without a bunch of motormouth announcers telling me every freaking play.

It's a factor of time, announcers seem to get worse and worse as the years pass. From the time they come on the air there is an endless stream of chatter, they won't shut up for a second. Analysts breakdown the play to an absurd level inundating the viewer with information that while relevant is generally more than the viewer needs to know. It's not just the announcers, the games are so overproduced a viewer can get fed up to the point where you decide to just watch the highlights on YouTube. A few years back I was watching an inning of a game on TBS, the batter came up and a scattergram was superimposed of where the batter hits the ball. Can we just see what happens!

The game inside the game approach has taken the fun out the viewing experience, we're just trying to balance a checkbook here not learn advanced accounting.
