View Full Version : Shout Factory Will Release Individual Seasons!
AngieTribeca 12-09-2017, 05:11 AM On March 27th, Shout Factory will release season 2 with future seasons coming up at later time.
If you are one of those individuals who do not want to own all seasons, the individual sets may be the way to go.
I prefer owning all seasons, but even I can admit that there were a few seasons that were not very good.
Maybe the covers will be different.
1960'sTVfan 12-09-2017, 10:43 AM That's OK I prefer to have the whole series, I found a good deal on ebay, $73 and free shipping, that sounded pretty good to me.
And I'm glad I only paid $73 because so far I found two episodes in the set that run only 22 minutes, I figure those episodes are edited, so this isn't a perfect DVD set by any means.

Wonder if those are taken from Logo?

Logo's versions are about 3 minutes shorter than that... maybe it was 22 minutes in the first place. I mean, it WAS the 1980s, and lots of shows had abnormal runtimes from 22-24 minutes. Maybe it just ran extremely short because of the length of the script.

So not Logo then.

No.

Syndication prints (but at 22 minutes they are 30 seconds shorter than they should be so might be CBS Daytime edits), as I've suggested the master tapes may have been damaged
With the complete series out, it's hard to picture someone holding out for just season 2, unless they're die-hard Ginny fans.

There are people who don't like buying complete sets when the first season has already been released (Even if it's been a decade)...and it's extra revenue for SHOUT! to do individual releases.

That's a possibility, maybe the master tapes with the complete episodes of So Long Mom and A Tiny Romance were either damaged or not available, so Shout had to use edited/syndication masters instead. Both episodes run about 22:05 on the DVD's, since these are season 5 and 6 episodes, the full running time for both would be about 24:05. So two minutes is missing. My guess is what's missing on the DVD's is the first two minutes of these episodes, I think the first two minutes is probably what got edited out. Both episodes have sort of an abrupt beginning after the opening credits, it gives the impression that something is missing right there at the start.
I imagine this explains why there is that disclaimer on the DVD's that says episodes were taken from best available sources. When I saw that, I figured I would find some edited episodes.
Out of 208 episodes, if only 2 are edited, 3 if you want to count season 6's The Drop Out, which runs a full minute short at 23:05, not sure though that the episode is edited, I suppose that isn't too bad. 2 episodes are edited on the Mary Hartman set, but those edits are because of music.
AngieTribeca 12-09-2017, 10:21 PM So Long Mom and A Tiny Romance both have unedited masters. I have the recordings from Comedy Gold and both of them run about 24 to 25 minutes each. Since I have not watched every episode in the DVD set, I can't say what exactly has been edited from those episodes. I will check that out within the next few days.
AngieTribeca 12-09-2017, 10:31 PM Speaking of editing, if Shout were to use edited episodes, they would never use the versions broadcasted on Logo. Those episode aren't worthy of being aired on TV, much less being added to a DVD set. The Logo airings run as low as 17 minutes long. Such a tragedy that networks are allowed to air shows that have been hacked to pieces like that.
studd911 12-09-2017, 10:45 PM I had asked a question earlier and I didn't get an answer so I will try it here again on the complete series boxset has shout factory cleared all of the music that were on the DVD of One Day at a time thats if it were some

Then clearly someone did sloppy research at both SHOUT! and SONY not to check ALL the holdings. (Like Rhino FINALLY did with the MONKEES - loads of lost footage - TV,Movie and Special turned up in the Sony vaults) Sony does have a "Sony International" TV division who maybe are still siting on the uncut episodes.
Those uncut versions need to be posted on someplace and SHOUT! Called on the carpet for not apparently doing proper research and checking other Sony holdings.
Ron Ron 12-13-2017, 12:26 AM I had originally bought season 1 but I couldn't see myself waiting for the rest of the seasons to be released when a complete set was already out. This is one show that I was truly waiting for.
