Hamill recalled his brief stint with Gary Busey on The Texas Wheelers (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ab725gfGOXs), which he describes as a "discordant reply to The Waltons.” The sitcom ran in the 1974-75 season. “When the show was canceled, it was one of the biggest traumas of my life," says Hamill. “I was devastated. I thought, 'I'll never get a part that good again.’” He added on Twitter (https://twitter.com/HamillHimself/status/938880005274157056): “If this had been a hit- I would not have been available for #StarWars.”
king of comedy 12-09-2017, 10:41 AM I'm glad he got the role. Such a forgettable show.
Torgo 12-13-2017, 10:00 AM More importantly, he never would have made Corvette Summer.
Edison 12-15-2017, 02:01 AM And that would have been a bummer.

There are lots of cases like that in Hollywood history. Some turn out good & some turn out horrible.
Like Jerry Van Dyke choosing to do My Mother the Car rather than Gilligan's Island! I know it's not the exact same thing but you get the idea.
EccentricGenius 04-26-2018, 09:24 PM Interesting story. Let's not forget that Hamill played David Bradford in the pilot episode of "Eight Is Enough" before he was replaced by Grant Goodeve for the remainder of its run.
Coffeecup 06-26-2018, 06:53 PM I have never seen Star Wars movie but i did see Mark in the Texas Wheelers and the pilot of 8 is Enough.

I've read Jerry Van Dyke turned down Gilligan's Island because he thought the plot was "too silly". Like the premise of My Mother The Car wasn't silly and ridiculous?! LOL.
Ed.

LMAO! Exactly!
I wish they'd show reruns on one of the classic TV channels just to see what it was like. I know I can likely get it somewhere else but they should show a few episodes just for kicks.

Antenna TV had MMTC on their schedule several years ago and I watched an episode.
I don't think they play it anymore but it's possible they will in the future.

he turned it down because he read the script (I assume the script for the pilot) and thought it was "the worst piece of crap I ever read!"

They should have turned the one shot role of Schneider's nephew into a regular part. A Wookie would never show him such love.

Seriously. Even people that hate it have at least seen it once. Mind boggling.
DJM77 07-30-2018, 08:10 PM I'm 40 years old and I've never seen Star Wars either and I probably never will.
Coffeecup 07-31-2018, 03:39 PM That's right, I have never seen any Star Wars movies. Just didn't appeal to me. I did see Gone With The Wind a few times
Yong Fang 10-14-2022, 08:32 AM I can understand that, some people do not like Science Fiction and couldnt care less about it. I remember as a ten year old child in 1977 seeing commercials for it and I had to see it if nothing else for the amazing graphics which over forty (yes, 40) years later still stand up. I probably havent seen it in its entirity for decades however.
There are a lot of famous TV shows I have never seen. Friends is one. Frasier is another. Never seen a minute of ER, there are too many to count. Doesnt mean they werent probably good shows, just wasnt interested.
Yong Fang 10-19-2022, 06:19 AM Mark Hamill got really, really lucky with Star Wars. He was an unknown actor before that. Even with that, George Lucus (the director and more or less creator of Star Wars) didnt think the movie would even be a hit and the studio took a huge gamble on it.
Because of Star Wars, Hamill starred in the next two films and made a lot of money and fame, then because of typecasting sort of dropped out for many years. I guess he was doing other stuff but Star Wars had him set for life.
king of comedy 03-08-2023, 09:44 PM Don't forget, he is the voice of the Joker on Batman: the animated series.
