Is The Orville some kind of Star Trek parody? If not, what are the characters like? Are there any shapeshifters for main characters, or is there a race comparable to the Borg?

They have humans as well as other species for the main characters. I'm not sure if any of the main characters are shapeshifters. It reminds me a little bit of Star Trek but it's not as serious, there's more humor to it.

It reminds me of Star Trek too; but if it's basically a parody that makes fun of it, then I don't believe I'll watch it. The only reason I know about it is because it's on the same network that airs episodes of The Simpsons, and I'll see commercials for it when I fast forward.

Well there's a talking green blob of Jello who is a science officer or something. Yes it is clearly a parody of Star Trek; the uniforms are similar and they travel from one star system to another impossibly fast just like Star Trek. Also the producer Seth McFarlane is a big Star Wars / Star Trek fan.

I wouldn't say the show "makes fun of" Star Trek, it's more like a tribute to Star Trek in a half serious / half humorous way.

In a way it is like Star Trek because there is a bit of food for thought in it. Cheers and Merry Christmas!
