I was considering watching it, but my parents were watching TV.

I watched. It was great that they had so many of the regulars and semi-regulars on hand. I hate when they do these movies and only a few people show up. I liked how Ron Howard, who was riding high with a directing career, showed up to do it. I also liked how it ended - with Barney marrying Thelma Lou and Andy and Barney working together again. Very nice wrap up for the series. I’m glad they didn’t try to do another in-character reunion (I remember “Christmas in Mayberry” was on the table at one point as a follow-up).

I didn’t like the silly monster in the lake plot, or the fake Aunt Bee voiceover at her grave. Or the fact that Mayberry looked nothing like it used to.

I watched it but I also own it on DVD. To me, it's one of the best TV reunion movies that's been made. It stayed true to the town and characters.

Unfortunately that's true to life. A lot of the smaller towns don't look like they used to.

Return to Mayberry made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. I don't think they had an actual baby on the set though. I kept waiting to see a baby and all I saw was Opie holding a blanket.

Hate to be a party pooper. Glad everyone enjoyed it. I thought it was unwatchably bad.

It was a rare example of how to do these things right. Original writers, cast, and sensibility. It "felt" like an old TAGS episode, and yet they did show how things and people have evolved.

I remember seeing the reunion show when it first aired. As it aired a few days ago, I caught the last hour. As I read the credits, this time, noticed Don's daughter Karen was in it. Don't what character she played. The show was a little corny but entertaining to me.

When the movie first aired I thought Frances had passed away. Then years later heard she was living out of the state of California and didn't want any part of the show. I think she was a little bitter, maybe at Andy. Whether she was alive in 1985 when the movie, I don't know. Some one could google when she died.

According to IMDB It was Janet Waldo, who also played Amanda. Francis Bavier declined to playing the part due to having no interest and being very sick.

Hmm, the same lady who did Velma on Scooby Doo? Honestly, the voice didn't make much of a difference to me; at the time I just thought Frances was either very ill or deceased.

One thing I didn't like was how they treated Gomer. He spent five years in the Marines, and yet they showed him as the same person he was when the show started, still working at the gas station with that nitwit cousin of his.

I’ve never been ashamed to admit how much I love this movie. Glad MeTV is still airing it. My favorite part is near the end, when Barney is about to win the election in a landslide. The band is playing “Mayberry Loves Barney Fife.” How sweet. And Howard, being a smart man, puffs up Barney’s ego even further before letting him see, by “accident,” Andy’s application to run for sheriff. Barney then knows what must be done. Most of that is seen from a distance, with no dialogue. Great writing and acting!

Also, it's a sad coincidence that two actors who appeared in this movie - Rance Howard & Jim Nabors - just passed within days of each other.

I watched it a while back but vaguely remember it. I don't have ME-TV but I'm glad they stayed true to the show. How many times have you seen reboots or reunions that are completely different with the original?

I think Aunt Bea was just mad that they killed her off in the reunion. Maybe a storyline about a senile Aunt Bea didn't meet her approval either. Or maybe she was just Aunt Beaed out, after all she carried on in the role long after Andy left the series to pursue his evil and low life roles he would play in various TV movies. I think this is called "stretching". :rolleyes:
