I loved the Disney After and Fox Kids. My favorite cartoon is Batman the animated series. X-Men was great too and so was Beetlejuice. The 90s was the real golden age.

Once E/I came around in 1996, it tarnished broadcast cartoons alongside with corporations dominating TV stations like ABC (Disney), CBS (Paramount), and the WB (Warner).
Cable didn't help... neither did the VCR or home video games. But in a way... VCR's helped when a child went away and wanted their favorite SatAM show to be recorded.

The reason why good cartoons went away is because cartoons were designed to keep a child busy while parents would be working around the house and the child would not be bored and entertained and Mom And Dad would get a break to themselves. But when the networks like FOX did away with afternoon cartoons and replacing them with game shows and judge shows and reruns of sitcoms gone were the days of the after school tradition of kids returning from school and watching a great cartoon. Take for example I remember watching The Disney Afternoon cartoon block as a child and was amazed that Disney could do a smart idea by having a cartoon block that everybody could like. But I think once computer animated cartoons hit the airways starting with the cartoon series Reboot and the movie Toy Story you could tell that this was a new era for cartoons in TV history. Even today some of the cartoons like the ones seen on Disney Junior Disney Channel Nickelodeon Nick Jr. and Cartoon Network use computer animation and it has indeed marked a new style of cartoons for this century. But as cartoons will continue to improve in the coming years the afternoon and morning cartoon blocks will return to TV stations in the future

My four "Bucket List" shows not withstanding I have just about every Saturday morning cartoon shows I like on DVD. From time to time whenever I desire to relive my childhood I'll fire up my player and watch some cartoons I grew up with. Ironically it was home video and Cable TV that led to the demise of
both weekday and Saturday morning cartoons. Today one can watch a cartoon whenever they want to. I think the "EI Mandate" needs to be repealed. Let kids be kids.

Political correctness and severe censorship is what happened.

All today's episodic TV stinks. Why would cartoons be any different?
