I searched the boards and couldn’t find out how Griffith hurt his hand. I know it was real. Could it have happened by punching out a windshield?

Andy's bandaged hand appeared in two consecutive episodes, #55 Aunt Bee the Warden and #56 The County Nurse. Andy explained it as the result
of difficulty in apprehending the Gordon boys, but what I've heard happened
was that in a fit of rage, Andy Griffith had punched his fist through a wall in his home. I guess he had a rep of being a "hothead", in those days!

Ding! Ding! Ding! Yes the real reason that his hand was in the cast was Andy Griffith punched his fist through a wall during a fight with his first wife Barbara. During the sixties their marriage rapidly deteriorated and the two had frequent arguments. I read in the book Andy and Don (Which is a must-read for any TAGS fan) that a week after that happened Barbara Griffith punched the front door.

Wow I have to read that book. Seems like the two of them were in the business of house demolition.

My late neighbor went to school with Barbara Edwards in Troy, NC which is about 20 miles from where I live. She said she was surprised that marriage lasted as long as it did. I also recently watched the uncut version of "Opie Loves Helen" and noticed that Andy tells Opie that he had a crush on a girl named Barbara Edwards in 5th grade.
