I normally hang around the UM board, but a fellow poster shot me a PM about an AMW case that really got my gears spinning.

This one concerns convenience store clerk Leah Rowlands who was shot to death while working at an Amoco station in Cozad, NE on March 10, 1997. (AMW broadcast this 3 times between 1997 and 2002)

Unfortunately, there's not a whole lot of info to be found about this case. The best info I've found comes from an ABC affiliate in Kearney.

A theory put forth by her brother is thin, but aside from it being a random act, it's the only speculation anyone's bothered to throw out.

(If you take the money and start to walk away, I'd venture to say you'll keep on going and try to make a good getaway. If you're going to blow the clerk away, you'll either do it at the beginning and take the money, or do it immediately after the clerk hands it over - you wouldn't hesitate. That's just my opinion though)

Incidentally, for those of you who watch UM, Dawson County is also where the town of Gothenburg (location of the Christi Jo Nichols case) is located - about 12-13mi NW of Cozad where this was.

I have the 1999 airing.

This is one of those cases that is so strange like Aeileen Conway, that I can't come up with a theory that explains everything.

If it wasn't for the guy coming in with the rolled up pants (like her brother mentioned), I'd tend to write this off as a random robbery. I think it's entirely possible that her ex could've hired someone to kill her, but since he's dead now (see the ABC link), solving this becomes infinitely harder.

Did shoot it to Websleuths though, so maybe between here and there someone will pick it up.

Huskers85, do you know if this gas station is 24 hours or was at the time?

No I don't unfortunately.

(Crime did take place shortly before 10:30 AM though)
