Thanksgiving is not just an American holiday. Canadians celebrate it too, except they do it on the second Monday in October.

The Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade began in 1924 with 400 employees marching from Convent Ave to 145th street in New York City. No large balloons were at this parade, as it featured only live animals from Central Park Zoo.

The Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade also was not known as the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade originally. It was because Thanksgiving is the start of the holiday season when Santa Claus was added at the end of the parade that the parade was known as Macy's Christmas Day Parade before the parade had a name change to the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade and is still considered a Thanksgiving tradition for families every year to see and watch on TV

I remember when opened their doors on the day after Thanksgiving at their normal hours. Yes, they were jumping with shoppers and the newspaper had flyers for stores inserted into their papers. Get this, on the Sunday after Thanksgiving the stores were CLOSED! They were closed on ALL of the Sundays throughout the holiday season, and if Christmas Eve was on a Sunday you'd better have your shopping done on December 23, Because the stores would not reopen until Tuesday, December 26.

Franklin thought that the eagle wasn't appropriate because it is a predatory bird. The turkey was dismissed as an option because turkeys are incredibly stupid.

I've heard that too. But if they did make the turkey the national bird, what would we eat on Thanksgiving? Because it's illegal to kill/eat a national bird.

Brazil brought Thanksgiving to their country in 1940 when a Brazilian Ambassador to the United States talked about it to many of the Brazilians.

They call it Dia de Ação de Graças.

Originated in Louisiana, a Turducken is a de-boned turkey stuffed with a de-boned duck, which itself is stuffed with a small de-boned chicken. The cavity of the chicken and the rest of the gaps are filled with, a highly seasoned

After the Apollo 12 crew splashed down on November 24,1969, they spent four days aboard the USS Hornet in quarantine. Thanksgiving that year was on the 27th, which meant the crew was in their specially converted Airstream trailer on an aircraft carrier for the holiday, and for President Nixon's visit. But quarantine didn't mean they had to eat the prepackaged meals like they'd taken to the Moon. They sat down that Thursday evening to a dinner of turkey with cranberry sauce and a choice of cherry or pecan pie before settling in to watch "Good-by Columbus."

More than 94% of Thanksgiving dinners include cranberry sauce. It takes
about 200 cranberries to make one can of sauce.

About 95% of cranberries are processed into juice, sauce, dried, etc. Only about 5% are sold fresh.

Wisconsin has been the #1 cranberry producer in the US, producing around 60% for the nation.

Not true. Hollywood produces the most turkeys by a wide margin.
