View Full Version : Anyone else not watch any current sitcoms?
counrfk 10-20-2017, 10:28 AM I don't watch any current sitcoms. In fact, I don't even know many of the names. I couldn't even tell you. I watch mostly DVDs of older sitcoms. I can't think of any sitcom that I watch that went past the year 2000. To me, the 1990s was the last decade of good sitcoms. I did watch a little bit of "Fuller House", and I plan to watch the "Roseanne" reboot. But this is only because I watched the original shows. I don't know what it is. I just can't seem to become interested in current sitcoms. Maybe it has to do with the fact that we now have hundreds of channels and hundreds of shows, and it's hard to pin one down to watch. Used to, there were fewer channels and fewer options. Still, the shows of yesteryear just seem to be better quality than those today.
tlc38tlc38 10-20-2017, 10:32 AM The only current sitcom I watch is "Will & Grace".
DJM77 10-20-2017, 10:37 AM It's been months since I've watched any current sitcoms. I used to frequently watch The Big Bang Theory, The Middle and The Simpsons. The latter two I'll probably watch again at some point.
Chocolate Moose 10-20-2017, 10:47 AM I'm with you. The quality has become really terrible.
Right now, I'm working my way through The Andy Griffith show on Netflix and dvds of Gomer Pyle USMC from the library.
William Hogan Jr 10-20-2017, 11:16 AM I don't watch any current sitcoms either. I only watch shows pre 2000.
Svenfan1234 10-20-2017, 11:18 AM I don't watch any current sitcoms. I've tried "The Big Bang Theory" & "The Middle" but they both are trash to me.
stevea 10-20-2017, 12:00 PM I see the Middle once in awhile but that is it.
1960'sTVfan 10-20-2017, 12:45 PM My favorite decade for sitcoms is by far the 1960's. The 60's had many great sitcoms.
Some 1950's sitcoms and some 1970's sitcoms are OK too, it depends on the show.
Sitcoms from 1980 and forward, I don't like them and don't watch them.
LUNCH 10-20-2017, 12:48 PM I don't watch any sitcoms or dramas etc. made during the 2000s. In my opinion 2000s TV is unwatchable.
BigManMike 10-20-2017, 12:49 PM I watch the Big Bang Theory from time to time but that’s about it.
Bonniegirl 10-20-2017, 01:56 PM The only recent show that I really like is Mike and Molly! :) Other than that, same here , I can't get into any of the current sitcoms at all!!
Besides old shows, the only new shows I watch are real life crime on IDTV!! ;)
principehomura 10-20-2017, 03:16 PM The only recent ones I enjoyed a bit were Suburgatory (a comedy, not exactly a sitcom), and Melissa & Joey (although never cared for it too much, just watched randomly some episodes).
I tried something, but I was alway bored.
To me the problem with current comedies are three: gross humour, excessive pop-culture references, and soap-box forced thought.
Mr. Television 10-20-2017, 03:16 PM I haven't watched any current sitcoms in over a year. There are some that I like TBBT, The Middle, The Goldbergs, Fresh off the Boat and Mom but they just aren't appointment tv to me anymore.

The only current shows I watch are Chicago PD, Chicago Fire and Blue Bloods. Most nights I just watch shows I DVR'd off ME-TV like Cannon and TJ Hooker.
Regulus 10-20-2017, 03:43 PM I seldom watch any show from 2000 to the present. A rare exception is the 2002 version of The Twilight Zone, which I am watching this month along with the origional and 1985 versions, as well as the original The Outer Limits. After Halloween passes I watch some historical and war movies and TV shoes leading up to Veteran's Day, patriot: then...
:tree: BRING ON THE HOLIDAYS! :santa2:
counrfk 10-20-2017, 03:54 PM Proud to see that I'm not alone! I can't name even one current/recent sitcom that I've watched regularly or even at all. After 2000, I did like a few drama shows. I liked "American Dreams". I watched that one every week. I liked the very short-lived series "Jack and Bobby". I liked "Army Wives". And I still watch "Law and Order SVU". Besides those, nothing.
icecream 10-20-2017, 04:02 PM The only current sitcoms I watch are The Middle and Speechless. And only one of those will be left next season. There are a lot more current dramas that are good though.
Regulus 10-20-2017, 05:32 PM It's been 11 years since I gave up on modern TV shows, as well as the way vintage TV shows were being treated by those who aired them. I find it hard to fathom since then I've acquired over 1,000 different TV series on home video, as well as over 2,700 movies plus 80 serials and over 500 documentaries. I've set myself for life as far as programs to watch. No monthly fees and no commercials to cope with. No political sermons shoved down my throat. I keep asking myself how much longer will commercial TV last? Pay TV providers continue to lose subscribers, and free TV continues to lose viewers as well. I'm just about content with what I've accumulated over these years, just a few "Grail" shows that I keep my eyes peeled for, and that's it.

I like Mike and Molly also but it’s no longer current. It ended in 2016.
broadmoor 10-20-2017, 09:18 PM Nope. I don't watch any modern sitcoms, dramas, reality shows, or anything else of that nature. And I haven't for years. The rancid, tawdry nature of so much modern fare drove me away to the point that I didn't even care to bother looking for the occasional series that might appeal to me. I just cut it all off, and I've never regretted it for a moment. I get my entertainment fix from dvd's of older shows and movies, which are far more aligned with my tastes and my moral worldview. The only problem is space, because I'm practically buried in boxes and boxes of dvd-sets all around me! But I'll never go back to cable/dish, never go back to modern television programs, never pay for any streaming service. I'm completely divorced from all that, and will happily remain so until the day I die.
RetroGuy2000 10-20-2017, 09:34 PM I'm close to watching no current sitcoms. I do watch The Big Bang Theory. Prior to that, for sitcoms, I watched The King of Queens (ended in 2007) and Friends (ended in 2004).

Yong Fang 10-21-2017, 01:16 AM The only "sitcom" I like now in productiion is "Mom". Mom is a great show and I relate to these people.
Given up on Modern Family, The Middle, and Big Bang Theory. The Modern Family is not a modern family, it is a snarky 1 percent family living in luxury in Southern California. The Middle because the kids grew up (Patricia Heaton is still foxy though).
The Big Bang Theory should have ended years ago. If you havent seen it, go to YouTube and watch the show without a laugh track. It is a lot different, and we dont see funny characters, we see smart ass, unfriendly, insular characters. Besides, Sheldon and Leonard are 40 years old, and Leonard is married but still roommates? Huh?
I did like Young Sheldon quite a bit, since I am also from the South and the characters struck home to me. CBS showed the Pilot and then poof, gone until November.
Non-sitcoms shows I like are Law and Order SVU (yeah, yeah, it's Soap Operish now and dumb), The new Law and Order show (about the Menendez Brothers this season) Star Trek Discovery, The Orville, and Fargo (which may or may not have a new season, leaning on not). The First 48 is also on for a reality cop show.
TV is awful now and if I lived in the USA, would not have cable and hook up my computer to the TV and watch TV from there. I cant stand the commercials, couldnt care less about local news or all the idiocy. I live in China and go to a website where I can watch shows without commercials and its wonderful. I would use this website below and Youtube and thats about it.

MrCleveland 10-21-2017, 12:27 PM I haven't really watched any new sitcoms...the only one I watch that's new is Fuller House!
Coffeecup 10-22-2017, 11:00 AM I did watch last year The Good Place with Ted Danson and Kristen Bell but it was a little slow for me so I haven't tuned in this year. I did decide to see for it was promoted a lot, The Good Doctor with Fred Highmore. But other than that, my dvr has been recording DECADES old shows, METV shows, or BuZZer shows. Sad to say, I watch so many old shows, that I don't pay much attention to current national news. My neighbor said, Did you hear what Trump said about such and such and I say Nope I didn't hear that.

Considering that here we have a Chinese citizen who says their programming is better than ours? This makes our situation regarding our programming much WORSE than I envisioned!
On the positive side you do recognize that there once was a time when our programming was far better than it is today!
visaman666 10-22-2017, 10:54 PM Fraser was the last sitcom that I watched on a regular basis.
I watch Big Brother, Survivor, and, The Amazing Race. I will watch Dancing With The Stars, but mostly fast forward it this season. I stopped watching The Bachelor.
