Well, I decided that I couldn't pass up the opportunity to meet Valerie. So I headed over to the 92nd Street Y yesterday evening to say hi. I would have thought that someone else here would have been on his horse and ambled on over too. Aside from being absolutely incredibly stunning she was friendly, funny, and beyond gracious to me. I really wish you all could have been there too. It was a memorable evening.

I did find out a few surprising things about her.

Despite the fact that she's a west coaster she's a diehard Ranger fan. :D

And she just happens to think that Opus is the world's silliest name.

Here's one picture. If I can figure out how to crop the others I'll post some more.

Yes I do, but that's what I meant by cropping the photos. It was important for me to meet her and get pictures of her. I don't know if the internet can handle pictures of her with me.

I was just on the phone with Verizon with some plan issues but I'll try to post some more pictures in the next few days. But to me the highlight was meeting Valerie and how nice she was. Much more important to me than the pictures. :)

Sigh. The riff raff a celebrity is forced to meet in order to sell a few books... :(

Glad to hear she was nice

Now give some more details. What went on? How long did it last? How big was the crowd? Stuff like that.

I don't know if you've ever seen it on TV, but the 92nd Street Y often hosts celebrity interviews. They have various auditoriums. In fact, Woody Allen was also there the same night. Way more people came to see him. I'd guess at least 500. There were about 100 people for Valerie. There are two chairs on a stage, for Valerie and the interviewer. She was interviewed by someone named Alex Guarnaschelli. I had no clue who she was. She's evidently a judge on cooking shows and her mother publishes cook books or something like that. Alex and Valerie evidently know each other reasonably well. They talked about food, cooking, family, etc. They kept mentioning various famous TV cooking people, none of whom I knew. Valerie was stunning of course and that's the reason I went. It was nice and there were some laughs and it was pleasant all around. They talked for about an hour and took written questions from the audience.

Valerie mentioned that she loved Bonnie Franklin, Norman Lear, Pat Harrington, and she and Mackenzie Phillips are still friends. She said she hated TV Land for cancelling Hot in Cleveland because they had such a good time on the show.

When it ended they put Valerie in an adjacent room to autograph her cookbook. Do I need a cookbook? No. I have a new expensive kitchen which is there to look good and that's about it. So of course I bought the book. I made sure to take my time to get to the back of the line to have as much time as possible. I've met a lot of celebrities over the years and I tend not to be starstruck. This was an obvious exception. I almost never ask for autographs unless I happen to have something meaningful with me. When I went over to Valerie she was just very genuine and nice, much more than I expected. She started the conversation and we were off and running. I tend to be a fancy dresser and the first thing she said to me when I walked over was, "Oh my God, I love that tie!" Then she told me it was her favorite color and we went on from there. Valerie being so genuine with me was what made the evening so special. And did I mention she was stunning? :eyes:

That's nice! ;) And I'm sure she would have really liked Opus and conversed with him a lot too! ;) And if she knew his screen name here as Opus, she would find that to be very cool! :) I'm sure she knows of that cartoon penguin , and since he is a fan of Opus, she would think the name is a good one! :)

I love Opus with all my heart! He is a VERY DEAR friend of mine and pretty much a Brother to me here!!!

I didn't expect Valerie to mention Opus being she never met him, I was just saying if she had met him she would have liked him and had a nice conversation with him! ;)

It's always a heady experience when you meet a star you really like and they turn out to be super nice. I met Ann Meara many years ago at an event- nice as you can be. She was pretty too -in person she was very petite with really red hair. Not at all like the frumpy women she often plays.

I've met Whoopi Goldberg a few times in person-also super nice.

I meant Valerie didn't mention Michael.

If Valerie said to me "How's Opus?" you'd have had to carry me out.

Thanks. You just made the whole experience even better.

You're such a great person. :)
