I was about 12 when I first saw that episode, and that scene made me nervous, LOL. Dan can be scary when he's angry. Becky and Darlene had made Roseanne cry, and that's something a kid should never do to their mother. I still at age 38 get a queasy feeling in my stomach whenever Dan is getting on to them. I felt like I was getting in trouble too! Lol

Yes. That scene is great. It really showcases John Goodman's range as an actor. You really believe Dan's furious with the girls. He sells that scene.

Yes indeed. The acting is so good that you forget that he is on a show, and it seems like a real father disciplining his actual daughters. I am just a little younger than Becky and Darlene. I'm their generation, and even as an adult now I feel like I'm being disciplined. Wow, very realistic!

I'm in the same generation, and felt the same as you.

Another similar scene is the one where Dan finds out Jackie's boyfriend Fisher beat her up. Dan just grabs his jacket; no dialog is needed.

Yes. You don't want to be on the receiving end of Dan's wrath, lol.

I like how he wiped the smug looks off their faces for a second.

The thread refers to this episode. Please note that Sara Gilbert came up with the story idea in the credits.

Eh, I'd feel sorry for Roseanne but I just can't. She always comes of as pushy and everyone's business plus she undermines anybody who doesn't agree with her. How about when Dan was in charge when Roseanne got the new job at the mall? She totally undermined his decision when Darlene moved to the basement. How about Gary? She crucified Jackie about dating the guy and then when SHE felt ok with it, it was ok. It's almost like Jackie had to ask permission from Roseanne to date Gary. And then when Roseanne was ok with it, she literally wanted Jackie and Gary to walk down the aisle.

Those are just a couple of examples.

She also made a profit over selling the ovens that were sent to her by mistake.

I liked Gary. I thought Rosie and Jackie treated him kind of harshly.

That was nothing compared to him completely losing it when David confessed to secretly living with Darleen in Chicago.

Didn't he punch a hole in the wall as well?

A really intense scene where John Goodman REALLY shows great acting skills was at Darlene's wedding when he was having a heart attack! Leading up to the actual heart attack, before he collapsed ! OMG!!! He was looking really BAD, very sweaty, pale and clammy , and very nervous!:( It was SO realistic of someone who is basically having and is trying to deny/fight it or is about to have a heart attack /knows something is really wrong, they don't feel right. maybe not sure exactly what is going on! :(

John Goodman played this so realistically ! ;) (I know cause my Dad had a heart attack) :( John is a really great actor !;) We all know what a great comedic actor he is but as he displayed in the ep. I was just posting about , a very good dramatic actor as well!!!;)
