(The Cleveland Indians beat the NY Yankees 9-8.)
(Ralph & Ed just watched the game from the Raccoon Lodge. Ralph is bummed out.)
Ed: "Ralph, you got to keep your chin up. I know that the Yanks blew a five run lead."
Ralph: "What a heartbreaker Norton. Now, the Yankees have to run the table to beat the Indians. This is too much."
Ed: "Ralph, you got to keep your chin up. You got to smile."
Ralph: "What do I have to smile about?"
Ed: "It's easy to smile when things are good but now it's a challenge. Come on Ralph, show me that smile there. Show me the ol' Liberace. Show me the ivories."
(Ralph smiles.)
Ed: "Beautiful. Beautiful. Now that's perfect. Now, don't think of the ending. Think of happier times. Think of early in the game when the Yankees had a 8-3 lead. You were all happy. You were beaming."
(Unbeknownst to Ed, Ralph is boiling up.)
Ed: "Remember, as far as this Yankees team goes Ralph, you got to smile. Smile. Smile."
Ralph (yells): "GET OUT!"
(Ed leaves.)
Ralph (to himself): "Somewhere there is a straightjacket waiting for that man."
(Jackie walks on stage. Crowd cheers.)
Jackie: "Thank you. Good night."
(Crowd cheers.)
