There is a slight oddity in this episode. Wally is debating whether to tell his parents that Scott's parents aren't going to be at the cabin. In the meantime, Fred calls Ward, and Ward asks Fred if he has a problem with the outing. Fred says no, but that Ward has put him into a bad position by giving Wally permission to go. Fred then tells Ward that Scott's parents are going to be elsewhere.

Then Wally finally tells W&J Scott's parents won't be there. After discussion, W&J rescind permission. Later, Wally goes out to tell Scott and Lumpy that he can't go. June hollers to Lumpy that his father is on the phone, and Lumpy returns to inform the other two that he now can't go, either. I guess we are to assume that Ward called Fred to tell him that he will now not let Wally go, and then Fred wanted to talk to Lumpy.

So, Fred makes his decisions on Lumpy's permissions based on what W&J allow or disallow? Also, it was odd for Fred to say he didn't have a problem with the trip after finding out (somehow...maybe Lumpy told him) that Scott's parents weren't going to be there. As strict as Fred appears to be (Wally even said that early on in the episode), I'd think he would simply not allow Lumpy not to go, regardless of what W&J do.

Yeah it seems Fred was basing his decision on whatever Ward was doing. I was surprised to see Lumpy show up with his gear in the morning after Fred and Ward got together. Fred knew that now Ward had to rethink the situation. Fred often reminded Ward how responsible his big bruiser was, as good with the bat as the books. Ward probably did call Fred back to say he was now not allowing him to go.

Personally W&J both knew Wally as a responsible and courteous person so I was surprised he wasn't allowed to go. I think the Barons posed more of a problem and they let Wally make his own decision to join. I think Wally would have had a great time and would have kept Lumpy in line. Scott had a different accent than the others maybe he was from NJ.

June was quite flaky in this one and way out in left field. She said how she told Wally to pack his blue sports jacket to look nice for Scott's parents. Too bad they didn't edit that scene.

I thought it was so formal and strange how W&J left the kitchen to discuss this and when Wally came into the living room they sat together on the sofa like the parole board. I agree with Wally "I might as well be in jail."
