Pauley Perrette is Leaving "NCIS"

Oct. 4, 2017

Pauley Perrette is leaving "NCIS" after 15 seasons with the CBS procedural. The actress announced her decision to exit at the end of the current season on her personal Twitter account Wednesday morning.

"So, it is true that I am leaving NCIS after this season. There have been all kinds of false stories as to why (NO I DON'T HAVE A SKIN CARE LINE AND NO MY NETWORK AND SHOW ARE NOT MAD AT ME!)" Perrette wrote.

"It was a decision made last year. I hope everyone will love and enjoy EVERYTHING ABBY not only for the rest of this season but for everything she has given all of for 16 years. All the love, all the laughter, all the inspiration... I love her as much as you do."

Perrette has been with "NCIS" since the first season, playing the quirky forensic specialist Abby Sciuoto. She marks the third fan-favorite star to depart the successful drama in the past four years, following the exit of Michael Weatherly in 2016 and Cote de Pablo in 2013.

The "JAG" spin-off has also undergone a series of other behind the scenes changes recently, including the departure of Jennifer Esposito, the addition of new cast member Mario Bello and the tragic death of showrunner Gary Glasberg last September.

Special Send-off Planned for "NCIS" Star Pauley Perrette
by Dominic Patten
Oct 4, 2017

A few hours after Pauley Perrette announced online that she was exiting "NCIS" as forensic specialist Abby Sciuto, EPs George Schenck and Frank Cardea and the House of Moonves today offered their heartfelt farewells – and plans.

“We’ve known for some time this would be Pauley’s final season on NCIS and have been working toward a special send-off,” revealed Schenck and Cardea on Wednesday.

“From day one, she has brought incredible passion and specificity to the role. Abby is a character that inspires millions of fans around the world, and all of us at NCIS are appreciative of Pauley for portraying her.”

CBS itself was equally effusive, calling Perrette and her Abby role, “a beloved actress and character.”

“Pauley has been a valued member of both NCIS and the CBS family for over 15 years,” said the net and CBS TV Studios in a joint statement this morning. “While it’s never easy saying goodbye to a beloved actress and character, we respect her decision to leave at the end of the season. We are grateful to Pauley for all her contributions to the series and making Abby one of the most unique characters on television.”

As for what form that special send-off will take, we hear seeds have been planted in the new "NCIS" season that just debuted on September 26th.

Not So Beloved: Over the years, this A- list mostly television actress from a very hit, very long running network show has attracted millions of fans. Every so often though, something pops up on the radar to make her not look quite as perfect as her fans want to believe she is. She was in the news this past week and she may be trying to get out ahead of a story, which is having new legs. It actually happened awhile ago, but didn't get the traction it is about to because there is talk of lawsuits. Our actress befriended a tweener on Twitter and the next thing you know they were DM'ing each other. Kind of strange if you ask me. Anyway, our actress passed along a lot of dirt about a co-star who had just quit the show. The tweener didn't know she was supposed to keep it a secret and repeated it on social media. Our actress was ticked and her fans went after the tweener to the point where the tweener was on the verge of suicide. The staff and production of the show got involved and the little girl never has been on social media since. Apparently this is not the first time the actress has got involved online with tween girls. Again, kind of strange. It is also interesting that this story is coming around again and the buzz of lawsuits just when the news broke this week. Pauley Perrette Still Grieving after Leaving "NCIS": "I Cry in my Car"
by Aurelie Corinthios
April 23, 2018

"NCIS" will always have a special place in Pauley Perrette‘s heart.

The actress, who has played fan favorite forensic scientist Abby Sciuto since the show began in 2003, announced last fall that she will be leaving the procedural following the conclusion of the current 15th season.

Perrette, 49, recently opened up about the decision to CBS News, confessing that she’s “still grieving” as she bids adieu to her beloved character.

“I, like, usually cry in my car every single day when I drive to work,” she said. “And I usually cry on my way home at some point. And then I take a deep breath, and I go, ‘All right,’ you know?”

“It makes me sad to imagine a world without Abby in it,” she continued. “It really makes me sad. … Abby made science cool and attainable for young women. And this television character did more than encourage it. It made it cool. It made it exciting. It made it fun.”

Luckily, Perrette hopes Abby’s impact will live on for years to come: The actress has created a scholarship fund for women hoping to follow in Abby’s footsteps.

“In honor of Abby, and in honor of young women that want to pursue science and math and forensics,” she said.

Now, Perrette spends much of her free time at home with her pets — and is looking forward to some time out of the spotlight.

“It’s just very dehumanizing,” she said. “I hope I’m not wrong, but I think that I have earned a little bit of time to myself. Just stay home. Go to church.” (Perrette is a regular at Hollywood United Methodist.)

Perrette also revealed that she’s uninterested in pursuing a love life — “Tried it. Not for me. Not at all,” she said — and is “delighted” at her decision.

“Probably the best decision I ever made in my life was the time that it took me to go like, ‘Wait a minute. This is silly. I don’t have to have a boyfriend, or a husband, or a girlfriend, or anything, you know?’” she said. “I don’t need any of that. Like, I do whatever I want. I do whatever I want. And I think that is rad!”

Pauley Perrette: My NCIS character has been an inspiration to "young girls around the world" (http://people.com/tv/pauley-perrette-ncis-impact-playing-abby/)
“It’s been such an incredible journey that this one little fictional television character has, and it is enormous and overwhelming for young girls around the world,” she said on The Talk. “Over the course of 15 years, it started very early, (girls) have modeled themselves after this TV character. It made math and science not only a viable plan for them, but it made it accessible and it made it fun and it inspired these girls."

NCIS' Pauley Perrette: "There's never been a character like Abby on television" (http://www.tvguide.com/news/ncis-pauley-perrette-reflects-on-abby-legacy/)

Perrette, who exits her beloved forensic scientist role tonight after 15 seasons, says of the uniqueness of Abby Sciuto: "She's a brilliant scientist with this whole alternative look to her but she's (also) a good girl with a huge heart. She's a church kid. She bowls with nuns. It's so many things wrapped up into one." Perrette says her final episode will be a "heavy" one, and that she "gave it all I had emotionally." (https://www.usatoday.com/story/life/tv/2018/05/07/pauley-perrette-exit-cbs-ncis-abby/576023002/) She adds that "Abby's legacy is going to be forever. The effect that she's had around the world, especially in young girls pursuing math and science. There (are) young women out there who've gotten their degrees and are in the field of science and math and forensics because of this TV character." What actor or actress left a number one show thinking they can do better if they left it for another show and they flopped on their new show? (https://www.quora.com/What-actor-or-actress-left-a-number-one-show-thinking-they-can-do-better-if-they-left-it-for-another-show-and-they-flopped-on-their-new-show)

Question: What actor or actress left a number one show thinking they can do better if they left it for another show and they flopped on their new show?

I’m surprised that no one has mentioned Pauley Perrette.

Ms. Perrette became the “breakout character” on CBS NCIS flagship series. She had a relatively “easy” role, she was a fan favorite, and had she remained just a few more years she could have taken David McCallum’s role when he downsized and eventually retired. She received six figures per episode and she could have appeared in films during her hiatus.

Then something happened.

According to Perrette there was an injury on a performer (not herself) on the set of the series and it wasn’t “handled” to her satisfaction. Instead of soldiering on, Ms. Perrette tried to escalate the matter and while it was apparently taken seriously, that hadn’t happened soon enough for her tastes and she decided to leave the program. While there was some behind scenes movement to retain her, the publicity got to be too much and so the producers decided to cut their losses and allowed her to leave the series. It seems like she pissed more than a few people off as the universe had just created a series in Perrette’s native New Orleans and she wasn’t even offered a role in that project.

Nor has she been back even after the departure of series lead, Mark Harmon, with whom Perrette’s major issues seem to lay.

Ms Perrette was offered a comedy series, where unfortunately for her she was supposed to be the straight man, and it bombed terribly. Following its cancellation, Perrette left a number of bizarre postings on social media, culminating in her quitting show business. That was five years ago and other to announce that she’d suffered a moderate stroke, Perrette has disappeared from Hollywood.
