View Full Version : Shows you once loved but eventually gave up on TMC 10-02-2017, 02:28 AM What show, when you stopped watching (season), and why? Maybe it jumped the shark, or maybe it degraded in quality in some other fashion. RetroGuy2000 10-02-2017, 03:22 AM Happy Days - the slow, painful death of this show has been chronicled in detail elsewhere, so I won't go into it again, but what a shame the producers dumped the 1950s/1960s theme, sent Chuck to 'Nam, and gave Joanie the worst '80s perm ever. The Facts of Life - I only consider the four Eastland years canon. Everything after that -- the bakery years, the gift shop years, the post-gift shop years -- was some spin-off show. The producers moved from telling serious stories to producing a farce like Three's Company. Family Matters - This show devolved into an unwatchable mess sometime around season four. MASH - It seemed like most of the later seasons revolved around Alan Alda getting preachy. It's hard for me to pinpoint when it happened, but it ruined the show. Roseanne - the awful final season. Little House on the Prairie - when this dirt-poor family adopted "Albert Ingalls". Didn't they have a hard enough time feeding everyone already? Why would they adopt?! And then they adopted two more! The Lucy Show - When Lucy no longer had kids. WTF?! RetroGuy2000 10-04-2017, 08:47 PM Forgot to mention: on The Lucy Show, after Lucy dumped her kids, she even apparently forgot their names. She started calling her missing son "Jimmy" (he was played by actor Jimmy Garrett, but the character was named Jerry). Retro4Life 10-04-2017, 08:54 PM Frasier; great first few seasons, but the last four or five were largely laughless for me. Heroes - Decent first year, so/so second, then the bottom fell out. Torgo 10-04-2017, 09:00 PM Frasier; great first few seasons, but the last four or five were largely laughless for me. Same here. I pretty much gave up on it towards the end. tlc38tlc38 10-04-2017, 09:03 PM 2 Broke Girls: I liked the first 2 seasons then it got to be too much of the same. Scandal: first 3 seasons were good then went off the rails. Once Upon a Time: first few seasons good. Started to get bad with the addition of Hook. Then, the Frozen storyline sunk the boat for me. Revenge: first 2 seasons were awesome then it went South quick. howierules86 10-04-2017, 09:20 PM Glee - The first two seasons were great, season three was okay, got ridiculous in season four. New Girl - The first season was great, was boring after that Brooklyn Nine-Nine - See above visaman666 10-04-2017, 11:50 PM Married With Children. I can't even watch the episodes on-demand.By the last season, I didn't even know it was still running. MikeLutton 10-05-2017, 01:51 AM NCIS once tony left it was not the same now abby is leaving Dale Key 10-05-2017, 04:18 AM Law & Order: SVU - way too many ripped from the headlines cases that are boring compared to the cases when Chris Meloni was on it. The Walking Dead - it's just too boring at times and not worth the patience. Two and a Half Men - after the first five years it became unfunny and more mean spirited, the Ashton Kutcher years were an abomination. House of Cards - after the first two exciting seasons it's been excruciatingly awful. Arrowverse shows (Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl, Legends of Tomorrow) - Not worth the time investment due to mediocrity. Modern Family - starting with season 4 there were more bad episodes than good. Family Guy - started focusing way more on mean humor instead of the silly humor that made me love it, and the scripts are mostly very lazy. True Blood - The later seasons were all filler, badly directed and written. I could probably do 200 more but I'm tired now. icecream 10-05-2017, 11:19 AM Once Upon a Time: Then, the Frozen storyline sunk the boat for me.The characters from Frozen are long gone. um 10-05-2017, 09:13 PM "One Day At A Time" is one that I gave up on even though I stopped watching it not strictly because it was slowly Jumping The Shark more than, at the time, I was slowly getting more busy with preparing to go to college and I just was at an age in which I was watching less TV overall. It did change very much and JTS though. Torgo 10-06-2017, 09:06 AM Supernatural - When they started the whole angles vs demons thing I lost interest. Desperate Housewives - The season started and it was suddenly 5 years into the future, the wife and I tuned out. Lost - Somewhere along the line just stopped caring about the characters, then hearing about the finale and realized I didn't miss anything. Under The Dome - Strong first season, then it just went down hill, obvious the writers had no idea what to do. tlc38tlc38 10-06-2017, 09:16 AM ^Torgo---when "DH" did the 5-year jump at the end of season 4, it actually got somewhat better. Torgo 10-06-2017, 09:19 AM ^Torgo---when "DH" did the 5-year jump at the end of season 4, it actually got somewhat better. Probably should go back and re watch the whole series to the end, at the time we found it frustrating, but now I think we might have different opinions on it.:) tlc38tlc38 10-06-2017, 11:07 AM Probably should go back and re watch the whole series to the end, at the time we found it frustrating, but now I think we might have different opinions on it.:) Yes, I would go back and watch it! Season 5 is really good. I'm thinking about rewatching the entire series. Torgo 10-06-2017, 02:30 PM Yes, I would go back and watch it! Season 5 is really good. I'm thinking about rewatching the entire series. There's a few shows that I've gone back to and like them more than the first time around. So DH might be in that category. MrCleveland 10-06-2017, 04:50 PM At one point, I got into The Simpsons, but now they're a cash-cow that won't end! I also gave-up with Family Guy since the last season was more Peter Griffin oriented...and I think he's a total *******! king of comedy 10-06-2017, 05:31 PM Blackish: When they had a new baby, see yah! Yong Fang 10-06-2017, 11:11 PM Probably several. Shameless (US) just isn't good anymore and has ran its course. If and when they do have a new season, I will watch it for William H Macy but I think again, it ran out of steam. The Middle. Stopped watching this because the kids grew up. Probably have t watched an episode in several years. Modern Family. Sort of came to the realization that this is a snarky rich family and what's the point? Sort of the problem with The Middle, the kids grew up. The Simpsons, why is this still on? Been asking this for fifteen years, and I haven't watched the show in about that long. Old classic shows. The Andy Griffith Show I don't watch anymore because I have seen all the Black and White episodes countless times literally all my life. The color shows are not good and won't watch them. Actually I watch very little television now, because the new shows are not any good. I currently watch Mom, The Orville, Star Trek Discovery, Fargo (please fourth season), Law and Order SVU (and I sort of gave up on that) and that's about it. Edward216 10-07-2017, 01:13 AM Scrubs after Zack Braff left the show and they brought in a few new characters. There just wasn't any point watching after John "J.D." Dorian was no longer in it. I still won't watch the episodes after he left, I don't think they're very funny. Ed. RetroGuy2000 10-07-2017, 11:13 AM The Simpsons, why is this still on? Been asking this for fifteen years, and I haven't watched the show in about that long. YES. The writers ran this franchise into the ground. The show had many great episodes in its first (roughly) nine seasons. The later seasons are mainly painful to watch. I did catch a really great, funny episode called "Barthood" in 2015. But any good episodes are few and far between. They should have just ended after Season Nine. Svenfan1234 10-07-2017, 12:07 PM Never watched this first run, but I gave up on Diagnosis Murder because it's so boring and the writing is just so predictable and tacky, and the characters are literally all cardboard cutouts with no personality. I don't know if it was meant to be that way, but I hate the show now. |
