Julia Louis-Dreyfus Reveals Breast Cancer Diagnosis
by Nellie Andreeva
Sept. 28, 2017

Julia Louis-Dreyfus, the Emmy-winning star of HBO’s comedy series "Veep", just announced on Instagram that she has been diagnosed with breast cancer.

1 in 8 women get breast cancer. Today, I'm the one.

The good news is that I have the most glorious group of supportive and caring family and friends, and fantastic insurance through my union. The bad news is that not all women are so lucky, so let's fight all cancers and make universal health care a reality.

Julia

Sources say she got the news the day after she won her sixth consecutive lead actress Emmy for the acclaimed HBO comedy and third consecutive best comedy series trophy for the show, which she also executive produces.

Her illness is not related to the decision to make the upcoming seventh season of "Veep" its last, which was made weeks earlier. "Veep‘s" writing team will continue to work on scripts for Season 7, whose production will be adjusted to accommodate its star if needed.

“Our love and support go out to Julia and her family at this time,” HBO said in a statement. “We have every confidence she will get through this with her usual tenacity and undaunted spirit, and look forward to her return to health and to HBO for the final season of Veep.”

And how does she know that universal healthcare will be better for people?

She doesn't.

I've always enjoyed Julia, especially in Seinfeld. But it never ceases to amaze me that all these celebs will use any (obviously ANY) occasion to try to score political points.

All the best, Julia, and here's hoping for a full recovery.

I wish her the best and hope she gets well soon but I don't know why EVERY THING must turn to politics. After a while, it gets old no matter what your party is.

I think to work in the entertainment industry you must espouse certain ideologies. Why all of a sudden should I believe a celebrity knows anything besides having a platform to say it.
That said I wish her the best for recovery.

There's a political saying adopted by the Democrats, specifically Rahm Emanuel. "Never let a crisis go to waste."

I wish her the best too. She seems like a nice person. I wish there were more nice people.

Disappointed she would bring politics into this, but it's her decision.

Hope she stays strong and recovers soon.

Beautiful sentiment. I hope in a few months we hear she is doing much better!

When’s Veep’s final season?

Season 7 in 2018 will be the last. HBO cancelled it, but Julie L-D says it's at its clear stopping point.

I guess her political comment sort of makes sense considering the show she's on, "Veep", is politically oriented.

Sort of like the cast of "The West Wing", ex. Martin Sheen, making political comments.

Executive producer Frank Rich gave an update today on Veep’s final season, and how the show plans to work around Louis-Dreyfus’ recovery: “Julia is undergoing treatment for breast cancer, and we’re obviously postponing production of the show — we were supposed to have started now – while she’s in treatment,” he said in an interview with SiriusXM’s Julie Mason. “But the expectation is that we will shoot again. We have one more season we’re doing, which we’re incredibly excited about. Rather impressively, while we wait for her to gather her full strength, around her treatment, we’ve been having with the cast in Los Angeles, table reads of scripts for the final season as they’re ready.”

Really? Should actors that play doctors on soap operas give the public medical advice?

This is a perfect example of people not understanding the difference between reality and make-believe.

I've seen actors who play doctors do medical commercials and various PSAs. Same with actors who play law enforcement officials working on true crime docs and the like.

Celebs. are free to make whatever comments/endorsements they want and it's up to us on how to receive it.

That's exactly what I mean. Suckers actually put stock in what celebrities say even though they know nothing.
