View Full Version : Antenna TV "All of All in the Family" marathon Thanksgiving weekend
snowpeck 09-27-2017, 02:52 PM Thanksgiving weekend, starting Wednesday, November 22, at 5 a.m. running through Monday, November 27, at 5 a.m., AntennaTV is having a massive marathon of every episode of All in the Family.
Two notes though... Johnny Carson will still air each night at 10 p.m. and 2 a.m., and the E/I shows will still air Saturday morning.
Adamantium 09-27-2017, 03:12 PM Not my idea of a good Thanksgiving show. Also it seems like whenever AntennaTV has a marathon, fans of "Hazel" get on Facebook to complain, lol.

What would your idea for a Thanksgiving show be?

Thinking of shows on AntennaTV, I'd have to go with "Newhart." It's a nice pleasant show. I like "All in the Family," but it's a lot of yelling and doesn't play as a good Thanksgiving show in my mind.

Maybe not for your family but there are plenty of families that fight when they get together. Now they can get hints on what names to call each other.
mets82 09-27-2017, 06:04 PM AITF is on too much. A marathon should be for a show that you've seen but not often. AITF has been on forever.
Now, just sticking my 2 cents in, I really don't know what I would schedule.

"Hazel" would make for a great Thanksgiving marathon.
PhoenixAcres 09-28-2017, 12:10 AM I remember when they used to play "Leave it to Beaver" for Thanksgiving. :( AITF is not quite the same.
Dale Key 09-28-2017, 12:18 AM Wings or Newhart would be much better choices.
icecream 09-28-2017, 03:05 PM Ugh! A one day marathon of All in the Family would be bad enough, but the whole weekend? That will be 5 straight days, massive overkill. Of course I might not mind as much if it was a show I liked. I might be out of town anyway.
Dude111 09-28-2017, 05:40 PM Not my idea of a good Thanksgiving show. Not at all....... A very GOOD SHOW but not around thanxgiving!!!
Plater of Everything 09-29-2017, 05:50 PM They're probably trying to make us thankful for their other programs by taking them away. I'd probably do Becker, Wings, and Newhart, my personal favorites. Off topic, but has anyone noticed that Becker, Wings, and Newhart tend to be grouped together on the schedule? And in one of their promos, they put clips from these three shows together. Three great shows that go great together IMO. Unfortunately they gave Family Ties a weeknight slot and that f'd it up. So now instead of Becker, Wings, and Newhart being together, now it's Becker, Wings, Family Ties, and Newhart (in no particular order)

I'd take a "platter" of WINGS please- NOW THAT'S something to be
thankful for! (I just LOVE the show)
AITF is a great show, but I'd rather have a more mellow show for a turkey day marathon.

Same here, but I'd mostly just like to have something that isn't so political! In my opinion, the one thing that TV and Thanksgiving have in common is that politics should NOT be brought up.
Anyway, I'm pretty sure Wings already has an annual Valentines marathon. Honestly, I think Dear John would work better for Valentines Day.
Plater of Everything 09-29-2017, 09:34 PM How about we all email Antenna asking them to air something else next Thanksgiving! I'm so thankful for email
BigManMike 09-29-2017, 10:36 PM Well I’m certainly not thankful for Antenna Tv period because of the credit crunches. I won’t be watching that channel ever again regardless of what they show.
icecream 09-29-2017, 11:08 PM Anyway, I'm pretty sure Wings already has an annual Valentines marathon. Honestly, I think Dear John would work better for Valentines Day.Wings had a Valentine's Day marathon this year, its first on Antenna TV. I would love it if Wings did have an annual marathon there but nothing has been said about that. And Dear John would not be good for Valentine's Day, the whole show exists because his wife left him.
Becca3557 09-30-2017, 03:41 PM I love "All in the Family", but a little goes a long way. I think it's an excellent show, but I can't watch endless episodes of it. And it is over-exposed.
Retro4Life 09-30-2017, 05:15 PM I'm obviously in the minority, but I think "All in the Family" featured a more REAL family than just about any other show. Yes, they argued, got mad, mean and petty. Just like real families do. But underneath it all was love.
I'd be happy to spend Thanksgiving with the Bunkers (except I don't have cable right now, let alone AntennaTV LOL)
SunnyDay 09-30-2017, 05:59 PM Why are all you complaining about it? If you don't like it , don't watch it then. Simple.
icecream 09-30-2017, 10:38 PM Why are all you complaining about it? If you don't like it , don't watch it then. Simple. A 5 day marathon of one show is overkill. Even a lot of cable stations that air marathons don't have one with that long of length.

I wonder if anyone is going to sit and watch the entire marathon for 5 whole days and just take one hour naps when Johnny Carson is on.
icecream 09-30-2017, 11:59 PM The 4 hours of educational shows will also still air on Saturday as they can't legally be preempted.

Yeah I agree. They're interrupting five solid days of programming so that's a little hard to ignore.

They're only required to air 3 hrs
TVFactFan 10-06-2017, 11:24 PM I will be so happy whenever that Johnny Carson crap is removed:wave:
TVFactFan 10-06-2017, 11:28 PM Antenna TV gets worse every year. Stupid marathon when the show is on everyday

That and eliminating the credit crunch would make me happy.
TVFactFan 10-07-2017, 12:19 AM That and eliminating the credit crunch would make me happy.
Watch they removed Welcome Back Kotter at 6:30pm and put it on at 4pm lol
They need to put WBK in the 7:30pm slot and get rid of 227

I think All In The Family is a good show, I just dont want to see any show 5 days straight though I think Happy Days, Mr. Belvedere, Newhart, Family Ties woudl be better choices.
I recall last year or maybe two years ago FXX aired every Simpson episode That lasted quite a few days.
Svenfan1234 10-07-2017, 10:04 AM I enjoy Johnny Carson. It's the highest rated show on Antenna TV right now, so it's not going anywhere.
My question is: when will we know more about the new shows in December? After the Addams Family Halloween marathon?

Hopefully.
Svenfan1234 10-07-2017, 11:30 AM Yeah. I'm just waiting for news about the December schedule with Alice, Murphy Brown, Growing Pains, Head of the Class, The Hogan Family, Soap, Benson, & Silver Spoons.

Hazel Anyday 10-07-2017, 07:25 PM To answer a question from a lot earlier, one good reason for Hazel is that Hazel did have four different Thanksgiving themed episodes. Not that I EVER watch a show that's "marathon"ed. I can't think of a better way to get totally sick of a show and never want to see it again than to watch it marathon style. Once a week, maybe twice is all anyone should watch a show in order to keep it fresh and also it helps one to look forward to seeing the next episode if you have to wait a bit.
TVFactFan 10-07-2017, 09:33 PM It should a family sitcom marathon of all different shows during the holiday not just one show
All in the family
Family times
Good Times
Cosby show
Family ties

I don't like Johnny Carson at all, but that's possibly because it's irrelevant to me, as I was born in 2002.
Also, I think they're putting Newhart on after it on Sunday-Thursday nights to boost Newhart's ratings. So that's good!

I’m the opposite. I do not like the new people and like the old hosts.

Yeah same here. Carson was very classy and a great host.

I think Carson is extremely relevant considering the channel it's airing on (retro station). I don't think it has to do with age, since I'm only a few years older than you and I still find it entertaining. The people he has on and the time period it was produced should be familiar to fans of classic TV, and it's also an interesting look into real life during the time these shows were being made.
All that being said, I wish they would shift his timeslot a little later and put a sitcom in the 10 PM slot instead.

I don’t like Johnny Carson either. I was born in December 1990 and he went off in the Spring of 1992 when I was just a little more than 1 years old so I remember nothing of him. I tried to watch him two or three times on Antenna but found him boring and just couldn’t get into it.
Plater of Everything 10-14-2017, 10:34 PM I just wish they'd put Carson on at 11 again.
OH Nuts! 10-15-2017, 12:39 PM I will be so happy whenever that Johnny Carson crap is removed:wave:
Although I certainly don't hate this show, it is kind of out of place on an oldies Sitcom channel. I'd be fine with a compromise of having it rolled back to once or twice a week.

I'd be fine with a compromise of having it rolled back to once or twice a week.I don't think Antenna should limit themselves to being a sitcom station. They used to air some great dramas like Adam-12, Dragnet, and Alfred Hitchcock Presents. And Johnny Carson has lots of sitcom stars from the 70s and 80s as guests. He is their highest rated show and has not aired anywhere else since Carson's original run on NBC. What is out of place on an oldies station is Becker, most of its run was in the 2000s.

Becker really does need to go.

My bad I forgot about those shows. Certainly didn't mean to imply that THEY were out of place on Antenna. They're nostalgia and really did add to Antenna. But Johnny Carson is an entirely different animal. Because he does have some interesting guests, many of whom are sitcom stars, and that he is an appealing host in his own right, my opinion is to keep the show on Antenna - just less of it. This way there is more room for sitcoms and great shows like the ones you mentioned. And perhaps a nifty Western too every so often.
OH Nuts! 10-15-2017, 02:55 PM Re XMAS shows, I admit I'm biased towards WINGS. One of the few shows I could never tire of.
Actually I like the old Antenna format of having holiday themed episodes from MANY of their shows: for ex one hour of Father Knows Best, one of Hazel, etc. and maybe to spice things up some kind of Thanksgiving themed movie.
