i watched Monday's To Tell the Truth episode that had Mel Brooks on the panel and to me he was still comedically sharp at the age of 91. Also a panelist was an actress who was in Brooks' hit 70s movie Young Frankenstein Cloris Leachman. To me, she didn't know how to play the game well and she didn't contribute a lot in the questioning rounds. A good panelist IMHO for this show has to be bright, witty and have good reasoning skills. That's why panelists on the other incarnations of to Tell the Truth such as Peggy Cass, Kitty Carlisle, Bill Cullen and Tom Poston were regulars for years. They asked really good questions and they explained why they voted for the contestant they chose which to me was one of the strongest aspects of this durable format.
The other appealing factor has always been the contestants. The stories on last night's show were incredible. They had a female monster truck driver, a woman whose four first dates ended up in the ER, a female alligator trapper, a kindergarten teacher who moonlights as a wrestler and a man whose legal name is Darth Vader. To quote the title of an early 80s show "That's Incredible!"
It's great that To Tell the Truth is coming back for another season. Anthony Anderson of Blackish has proven himself as an outstanding and witty host and his real life mom Doris adds a lot to the proceedings.
