Prudence was a totally unnecessary character from the last season who was repulsive. The raunchiness of the show was vastly increased when she was on. I am glad the first 7 seasons did not have her, there might be a connection with Newhart being cancelled after one season of Kathy Kinney appearances. :yousuck:

Yeah I agree Ms. Goddard was easily my least favorite character, though on occasion she had some good lines. She actually arrived in season 7. I attribute her arrival and the severe downturn in quality of the show to the new producers brought in at the start of season 7. They must have been looking for a sex-obsessed character to bring a raunchy element to the show that was so carefully avoided (for the most part) in the first 6 years. The show lost a lot of innocence that year and descended into something much more immature and frankly sickening.

And this may be odd but I think season 8 was a good season overall. They turned down the raunchy aspect save for a few episodes. After that it was still the right time to end though.

Yeah I agree. The season she arrived is when Newhart jumped the shark IMO. She epitomized everything wrong with that season.

Many of season 8's episodes were good, except for her. Season 7 was meh, but my favorite episode, Take Me to Your Loudon was from season 7. Which I don't think had her in it.

Oddly enough, prudence strikes me funny! Her snootiness as well as libidinous character always get a chuckle from me.

Though she SURE could read her poetry in a very entertaining way ... and giving all her former / current boy friends digs to the point they had to run out ...
