View Full Version : Girls rude to Miss Garrett?
julian bozo 09-10-2017, 03:36 PM In which episodes were the girls rude to Miss. Garrett?
In IQ Sue Ann was rude. Sue Ann walked away when Mrs. Garrett was talking to her. She apologized to Mrs. Garrett saying she was really rude. In Star Struck where Tootie wanted to see Jermaine Jackson, she was rude to Mrs. Garrett. Can you think of others?

We were just talking the other day (in the "Limericks" thread) about the girls often being rude or disrespectful to staff and faculty at Eastland: Miss Muldoon, Mr. Gideon, etc.
I think the most disrespectful they were (all four of them, at least) was in the episode where Mrs. Garrett has to get a second job at Howard Johnson's because Eastland doesn't pay enough. I believe that episode is called "Give and Take": Edna gives and gives, and the girls take and take.
RetroGuy2000 09-10-2017, 04:18 PM Oh, and I think most of the girls (Tootie, Natalie, Cindy and Sue Ann, at least) were disrespectful to Mrs. G in "Gossip" as well.
RetroGuy2000 09-13-2017, 12:01 AM Come to think of it, Blair was very disrespectful of Mrs. G in the episode where she wants to get into Gamma Gamma, too. She actually fires her from the catering job for which she hired her.
And of course Blair was disrespectful to Mrs. Garrett in the backdoor pilot, "The Girls' School", where she indicated 'the help' should know their place.

I don't think either of those compare to how cruel she was to her in Working It Out. Blair referred to her as only her landlady and that she'll do whatever she wants without Mrs. Garrett's opinion. It's a shame they didn't do the backstory of Blair's issue as a separate episode. I would have liked to have seen Blair say yes and go with Cliff to get the ring sized like she said and then dump him. If Jo can have an hour long episode on a relationship with an older guy who has a kid, Blair could have had one on her breakup with Cliff.
'80sSitcoms 09-13-2017, 09:47 AM ^---That's what I was thinking about too; "Working It Out" was the worst.
As for "Starstruck", we can't really say Tootie was rude to Mrs. Garrett. She was acting out in determination and juvenile desperation and went into full-blown hysteria (not simply a "tantrum" as some fans think).
TV Guy 09-13-2017, 09:22 PM Blair was also rude to Mrs. Garrett when she slapped her on the ass in the Emily Dickinson episode.
Smartboy 09-13-2017, 10:10 PM Blair was also rude to Mrs. Garrett when she slapped her on the ass in the Emily Dickinson episode.
But in that situation, we will have to give credit where credit is due. Mrs. Garrett started that one by slapping Blair first. By the way, I really drooled at the site of Blair's butt jiggling in her slacks after Mrs. Garrett slapped her!

That wasn't rude, that was playful; perhaps a bit "insolent", but she did it out of fun, not rudeness.
RetroGuy2000 09-14-2017, 10:09 AM In Molly's Holiday, Cindy tells Mrs. Garrett to "get your fanny downstairs"; a bit rude.
'80sSitcoms 09-14-2017, 11:24 AM Even though some may call me biased, as Cindy is my favorite season 1 girl, I still can't call her "rude" for the fanny comment. If I recall correctly, her tone stems more from being overanxious. And, immediately after she says it she brings her hand up to her mouth in a show of "Oh, my big mouth!", showing she knows she spoke a little off-color, but I still wouldn't call it rude.

Oh, I feel the opposite way: she knew she was being rude to tell Mrs. Garrett to "get your fanny downstairs", which is why she had that expression on her face afterwards. Yet she didn't apologize. Bad Cindy!
'80sSitcoms 09-15-2017, 01:03 PM Well, I just look at it more as her "speaking out of turn" in a juvenile way. Now, Blair in "Working It Out"? That is rude. She acted so offended and hurt by Blair, but with Cindy, she was kind of playful with her reaction.

And that is the beauty of Mrs. Garrett: she can turn a rude moment (such as Mr. Parker's demands, or one of her charges being rude) into no big deal.
Now, I'm a huge fan of Cindy Webster, and feel the character, who is very likeable in a way that Jo is not, is one of the more underappreciated characters on the show, but there's just no denying her comment was rude. She could clearly see that Mrs. Garrett was working with Sue Ann, who had just recently fainted. And considering her friendship with Sue Ann, you'd think she'd want Mrs. G to help her friend. Instead, she and Nancy were demanding, Cindy even going to far as to make the comment to "get your fanny downstairs". Apparently, their needs were more important than Sue Ann's, according to them. What, Mr. Bradley couldn't drive them to the airport? It had to be the person who was already helping another student?
The "fanny" comment was not only rude to Mrs. Garrett, it was disrespectful of Sue Ann, as well.
'80sSitcoms 09-15-2017, 04:58 PM But they had to catch a plane! :) ;)
(and don't you mean Molly? Isn't this episode "Molly's Holiday"?)
RetroGuy2000 09-15-2017, 05:22 PM But they had to catch a plane! :) ;)
True, but there wasn't anyone else at Eastland who could fill in?
(and don't you mean Molly? Isn't this episode "Molly's Holiday"?)
Oh, right. I was mixing up "Molly's Holiday" and "Dieting".
Yes, Blair was way out of line in that one episode. If there was an episode where Jo should have slugged her, it was that one.

Which episode are you referring to?
valentina warner 01-31-2020, 09:29 PM I know everyone refers as BLAIR being the most rude to MRS G in 'Working it out',(especially when she tells her she is grounded) but you can see how remorseful she is feeling at the end, and how she wishes she could turn the clock back in time.
I feel this is a deep an intense episode between BLAIR and MRS G....
80s Dude 02-01-2020, 12:36 AM Molly was rude to Mrs. Garrett in Molly's Holiday. Tootie was rude in the Jermaine Jackson episode. Mr. Bradley was rude to Mrs. Garrett on several occasions where he tried to undetermine her authority and mocked her.

I don't think she was rude to Mrs. Garrett at all. She was rude to her father when she hung up on him.
Tootie was rude in the Jermaine Jackson episode.
Tootie wasn't "rude." She became absolutely hysterical.
Mr. Bradley was rude to Mrs. Garrett on several occasions where he tried to undermine her authority and mocked her.
Okay, now that one I agree with, lol.

Molly refused to obey Mrs. Garrett's order to speak to father and then she had an out of shape and winded Mrs. Garrett chase after her. I considered that rude.

See, I don't. A grown man telling an older lady to "butt out" is rude (Mr. Bradley). Molly was just being stubborn. And she didn't force Mrs. Garrett to chase her, that was Mrs. Garrett's poor choice, lol.

And the frizzy-haired floozy. Don't forget her.
