View Full Version : Antenna TV Fall 2017 Prime Time Schedule
cfr1970 09-05-2017, 11:19 AM It sucks big time. From 8pm to 10pm:
Sanford & Son
Good Times
The Jeffersons
All in the Family
These 4 shows are the most cycled over shows on their network. Are they purposely trying to shoo away the viewers during the prime time viewing slots??!!
I was hoping to see from 8pm to 10pm: (assuming no more hour blocks)
Growing Pains
The Hogan Family
Alice
Murphy Brown
I hope someone at Antenna TV sees this and does it for when those shows begin. I do love the Norman Lear shows above, but they really need to be put out to pasture for a while. Until then, i'll be jumping over to Laff and MeTV evenings.
Svenfan1234 09-05-2017, 11:45 AM I can't wait until the new shows come.
Where is Three's Company?
Svenfan1234 09-05-2017, 12:13 PM 6PM-6:30 is Three's Company
cfr1970 09-05-2017, 12:20 PM I lost my taste for Norman Lear's yelling shows years ago, but there's probably over 100 episodes of the four Lear shows that I'd watch because they're just plain funny. Of the bottom four shows, there's maybe 10 early Murphy Browns I think are worth watching.
I guess it's good to move shows around, but I think the really classic sitcoms should probably always be on someone's schedule. There aren't enough truly funny shows to fill up even one sitcom schedule, let alone all the vintage channels around now.
I agree the Lear sitcoms should always be somewhere on the schedule as they're classics. I also agree in regards to the humor being more timeless in his shows over the other ones.
I just think that the 8 to 10 pm hours are considered prime time and that's when the new shows should have a chance to be shown. These are the hours i'm tuned in each night and though I do love the Lear shows, at this point I hunger for some new variety.
I can only take "Weezy!", "Dyno-Mite!", "Dingbat" and "You Big Dummy" so many times before i'm sick of it.
Granted, I still laugh out loud at Sanford & Son and All in the Family even though i've seen the episodes dozens of times (not so much The Jeffersons and Good Times though)....I just want the new shows already!
mikey0581 09-05-2017, 01:04 PM They need more Maude and One Day at the Time if they want Norman Lear shows on Primetime.
cfr1970 09-05-2017, 01:18 PM They need more Maude and One Day at the Time if they want Norman Lear shows on Primetime.
Agreed. They just recently had Maude on Fridays 11:30pm for an hour and Sundays at 8pm for an hour and just when I was getting into it, it got yanked for the updated schedule. :(
One Day at a Time did air for a couple of cycles back in 2015 when it premiered on Antenna TV. I think it was 11pm for an hour block. But since it only ran a couple cycles, I never got sick of it and wouldn't mind it put back in the 11pm slot after Carson.
The rest of the Lear shows have cycled over so much and it would be better if all shows were given the same equal balance of rotations.
I wish Antenna TV would make it a point to at least air the newly acquired shows at LEAST one initial rotation in the Prime Time hours to give a wider audience a chance to view.
On a side note, look at Welcome Back Kotter that premieres today....one airing at 6:30pm weekdays! That's dinnertime and i'm not able to sit down to watch it. I was really looking forward to this one because I haven't seen it since the early 80's in syndication.
Dinnertime is the perfect time to show the programs that are run into the ground because I can leave them on in the background and not have to pay attention lol.
6PM-6:30 is Three's Company
So it's still the same time?
mikey0581 09-05-2017, 01:34 PM Maude is still on but its on one time on Saturday or Friday NIte at like midnight.
cfr1970 09-05-2017, 03:06 PM Maude is still on but its on one time on Saturday or Friday NIte at like midnight.
Just looked at the schedule....One episode at 1:00am Thurs, Fri & Sat. I love Bea Arthur, but i'm not staying up that late for her.
mets82 09-05-2017, 03:37 PM If there is a want for the Norman Lear shows, why not put them on in the daytime and have nighttime or primetime focus on other classics. I think putting shows on at that time gets more eyeballs.

I thought it was the opposite. Evening primetime hours 8-11pm get the most viewers because that's when more people are home.
I feel this is where all the premiere shows should go for their initial run/cycle to allow for the most viewers.
I'd be shocked if they put something like "Alice", which many (including myself) have been clamoring for, in the daytime hours when it bows in December.
stevea 09-05-2017, 07:24 PM I think Antenna's scheduling is getting boring and same old, generally. Come on, only one addition plus some shuffling for the fall? Those NL primetime sitcoms on Antenna are getting as tired as MASH and Hogan's Heroes are on MeTV.
One thing about the OP's primetime wish list: I don't think Murphy Brown has done well in syndication, at least lately. It's probably one of those shows that doesn't age well, so we won't see that, IMO.

I like the Norman Lear shows, unlike MASH and Hogan's Heroes, which I never could get into, but I agree they are way overplayed. They could definitely use a rest or at least be moved to a different time of day.

Murphy Brown will most likely have a primetime slot. Somewhere between 7-10pm at least.

I haven't watched Murphy Brown since it's original airing which is why i'm personally exited to see it again. I can see though how it may do poorly in syndication since from my memory of it, the show was very "topical" of the politics of the era and may not hold up well nearly 3 decades later.
Then again "All in the Family" was also topical and does very well, so MP could as well. I just hope it gets an initial prime time slot to give it a chance.
If it does poorly then toss it to 4am during the next schedule change.

I just commented on Murphy Brown before seeing this. I hope you're right!
What is everybody's dream wishlist for scheduling?
I would love to see Dave's World and The John Larroquette Show.
Plater of Everything 09-14-2017, 05:14 PM What repeats on here? I know Carson shows the same episode, and it looks like Newhart, Family Ties, and Wings at night are repeated early morning. Anything else?
On Sunday-Thursday nights, Newhart at 11, Family Ties at 11:30, Wings at 12, Three's Company at 1, Kotter at 1:30, Sanford at 3, Good Times at 3:30, The Jeffersons at 4, and All in the Family at 4:30 are repeated the next day at 5AM, 5:30AM, 6AM, 6PM, 6:30PM, 8PM, 8:30PM, 9PM, and 9:30PM respectively
RedPenguin 09-18-2017, 09:27 PM I will admit though, even though I do like the Joey Bishop Show, I'm surprised how much it's on compared to others.
I know it was a get for Antenna TV to have Season 1, but 227 started at the same time and oddly they only have one airing a week night now of 227 but still 6 days a week for Joey with 12 airings.
icecream 09-19-2017, 01:05 AM Joey Bishop has been scaled back since it first came. It started with Johnny Carson as lead-in Saturday nights then got sent to early mornings before the E/I shows. And on weekdays its timeslot got downgraded recently from 1PM to 7AM. It also lost an hour on Sundays. 227 is not just once a week, it airs Monday-Friday at 7:30PM. That is a prime viewing slot a lot of shows can only dream of. It also accomplished the feat of knocking Norman Lear out of primetime for a few months.
icecream 09-19-2017, 01:09 AM Sunday's 4:30PM episode of Mr. Belvedere was a pleasant surprise, the closing credits played in full and were not crunched.
biffbronson 09-20-2017, 09:38 AM I rarely watch Antenna after the morning / midday hours. Did Murphy Brown land on the schedule? I used to watch the original primetime airings to get an eyeful of Faith Ford. Between her and the blonde ladies on Matlock, my hormones were pretty busy back then...

Not yet.

I probably worded that wrong.
I meant it's down to one episode a night during the week. Most shows Antenna ever aired had two episodes on any given day it airs.
cfr1970 09-21-2017, 04:42 PM 227 is only watch worthy during it's first 4 seasons. The 5th season everything spectacularly fell apart especially with the glaring absence of Sandra. I know it was Marla Gibbs's vehicle, but Jackee was the life that show needed to keep on going.
When season 5 rolls around I stop tuning in. Those buffoonish dorky new neighbors, that blond airhead Sandra replacement, the old dude living in the so called "penthouse" and that fat little girl that came out of nowhere all contributed to making the show unwatchable during it's final season.
And Marla Gibbs not giving a F enough to wear her wigs anymore was the final nail.
When is Growing Pains coming?
Svenfan1234 09-21-2017, 04:53 PM When is Growing Pains coming?
Christmas.
Christmas.
Goody. Hopefully I'll have Antenna back by then.

I meant it's down to one episode a night during the week. Most shows Antenna ever aired had two episodes on any given day it airs.Antenna really changed things with the September lineup. A lot of shows now just have one episode so they can fit more in. Barney Miller airs weekdays at 5PM but doesn't get a 2nd episode. Welcome Back, Kotter only airs once at 6:30PM. That is an encore of 1:30AM but still just one new episode a day. Becker airs once at 12:30AM, Dear John airs once at 6:30AM, and What's Happening airs once at 7PM. Other shows like Family Ties, Wings, and the Norman Lear shows get 1 episode that encores later in the day, not 2 separate episodes. There are a lot of single episode airings on weekends too.

I prefer the one hour block of each show. I'm glad they kept it for the afternoons at least but I hope they go back to it next schedule change for prime time hours.
And put Welcome Back Kotter at a time when people can see it rather than the dinner hour. I was anticipating this to premiere and am too busy at 6:30pm to sit down and enjoy it. :(

Watching the show now, I have a major crush on Leanne on Matlock.

The only thing I despise about that wish schedule is tossing 'Alice' to 1:00 in the morning! After almost TWO years of waiting for it to bow on Antenna TV, to shove it at 1AM would be a disgrace.
I'm hoping it goes to prime time, preferably during the 9-10pm hour and they also go back to double episodes. I'd love a whole hour of 'Alice'! And having over 200 episodes, it wouldn't cycle over again for 6+ months.
Also, 'Murphy Brown' at midnight is just as bad. These are 2 highly anticipated shows for Antenna TV and deserve to premiere at more watchable times.

I tune in prime time every night and actually like this 8 to midnight lineup you have. It's got my Alice & Murphy Brown that i'm anticipating and I love Taxi for the whole 11pm hour. I haven't watched those episodes in years so it would be a nice welcome to Antenna TV.
The Facts of Life I grew up with during it's original run, so I can relive that again for the 8pm hour...and who doesn't love Mrs. Garrett? :)
Edited to add: The Carson episodes seem to be repeating over again so if they only have this certain block of episodes to keep replaying now, i'd rather see 2 sitcoms in the 10PM hour instead and throw Carson to midnight.
AMackII 10-09-2017, 12:54 PM I prefer Double episodes better on Antenna TV than the single episodes. As for their early evening & primetime lineups, they should shake things up while Johnny Carson stays put at 10/9c every night.
Coffeecup 10-09-2017, 03:04 PM I lost the whole day of programming of Antenna.. something to do with the affiliate. I get a afternoon portion but it is mixup of 1970-1980's shows and not as good as it was before. When one station goes I pick up another. Any one watching DECADES with their 1950's hardly been seen before tv shows. I am but wish they didn't have such long marathons. It is difficult to see 20 "One step beyonds" or I married Joans. I do wish they would keep the shows but show one hour a day. My DVR is into over drive.
