This is the point where I grumble about the 120+ hours of recording off of LOGO I've done (I had to record duplicates when they ran the skipped shows not aired the first cycle)... of which 40 hours are just commercials :) :) :)

The big question is "How Complete is Complete"

You know, the clearance issues for the music related episodes and the odd episode with background "needle drop" music. But I'm sure even if they had to do a substitution or snip in an odd episode it's no big deal...

Or...they cleared all the music. It's no WKRP, Wonder Years, or China Beach when it comes to music. Or Happy Days. I'm also 99.98% sure that this is Shout Factory doing this... so I'm sure it'll look awesome and episodes all digitally remastered and uncut:) I also can't wait to hear about the cover art, special features,etc...

I just hope this isn't like "Maude Season 2" over a decade ago when the cast recorded interviews but they didn't release Season 2. But I highly doubt it, and I don't mean to put worry into anyone's heads about this. Mackenzie Philips and Glen S would know best, after all.

For the complete series DVD, I'm mostly interested in the early seasons where Ann has the longer hair. :D After that, it's still a decent show and most of the episodes are good, but Ann with short hair just doesn't appeal to me. :( Barbara/Val took over as eye candy as she matured and Ann's hair was hacked short.

The New Years episodes where they put on shows for the old folks at the retirement home, those episodes have song and dance numbers so I hope they will be unedited on the DVD's. That artwork they used for the trade ads for syndication in the 1980's might make a nice cover

https://image.ibb.co/n2Uo1v/Bonnie_Franklin_One_Day_At_A_Time_1984_Ad_187_available_now_Embassy.jpg

(This was 1984 when season 8 was added to the package - 9 wasn't added till fall 1985 - The first package was just Seasons 1-7 in 1983)

I imagine that, tweak it a little--they're probably going to use the same "painted-on" style that they used for ALL IN THE FAMILY, MAUDE, MARY HARTMAN, THE JEFFERSONS... I wouldn't be surprised if it was that but more styled like a painting sort of like the others.

Good question.

I have a purely speculative theory but would probably get blasted for sharing it here.

Oh well, what the hell? I will just speak my mind. :)

We do know by both their own admissions that Valerie was very distant from Mack Phillips by that point and maybe she was like that with Boyd as well... Interviews with her at the time made her seem like she was somewhat of a diva and kind of stuck on herself. Fame and constant adulation can do that to a person.

Perhaps - although my theory for "Tension", it could have come from the fact that Val and Bonnie were offered a two season pick up (9 and 10) and they both opted for just for 9 and out. He might have been a stage actor, but a steady gig on a hit show is nothing to sneeze at. From what I have been able to tell, CBS would have continued the show without Bonnie with Just Valerie.

Valerie did basically take the show away from Bonnie which would not have totally happened if Mack was "with it" and never got fired/quit (twice). Bonnie knew she was losing control of the show...and it was to Valerie. If Mack was there to keep the story-telling balance then things might have progressed differently. Val already had her huge popularity by Season 3 so that was set in stone regardless. The lost of the balance is the core of everything that happened from the moment Mack was fired the first time to the end of the series. Even after She and Michael returned it never came back really as there were too many regulars/reoccurring cast members by then (Glenn, Nan,Shelly and later Boyd and Howard)

Ron, Glenn,Shelly,Nan were poor replacements for Mack's absence. Micheal's Max worked as it was the progression of Julie's life and storyline and he fit perfectly storytelling wise - they finally found a "5th Character" that worked after having written off David and Ginny. Mack went and messed things up. It doesn't matter that the ratings were not impacted by her absence - story-wise Barbara saved the show, not Ann.

So I don't blame Val if she got a bit of an ego.."America's Sweethear" - TV Guide's first major article early on her calls her the shows "Favorite Sister" - Boy, what that must have done to Mack!

Well, I still highly doubt we'll see him as part of the extras on the set. They all, except for maybe Glenn, hated him and supposedly behind the scenes they all didn't get along with him.

What's most important to me is that the episodes are 100% uncut and I have no reason to believe, with Shout's record, that they won't be.

I don't blame her either in the sense that she was young and impressionable and didn't have any context for life in the real world. She basically had her career handed to her on a silver platter at the age of 14.

Mack also had a major DIVA attitude but because of her life circumstances and lack of a support system her life went to Hell. Val had a stable family, the fawning of the press and the public and no doubt that went to her head. She also did drugs but Mack got all of the grief and VB was in a protective bubble and didn't suffer any repercussions at that time.

I just can't imagine Valerie HATING Boyd??? Maybe she felt she didn't have much in common with him? No attraction ! But I don't really see her having anything really in particular against him or hating him??!! :(

Yes, because Shout puts in a lot of time and effort to get music clearances and they did it amazingly with lots of their sets.

The Mary Hartman DVD set has two incomplete episodes because Shout wasn't able to clear some Johnny Cash music. So we'll see how they do with One Day At A Time. Hopefully all episodes will be complete/uncut.

Well, I still highly doubt we'll see him as part of the extras on the set. They all, except for maybe Glenn, hated him and supposedly behind the scenes they all didn't get along with him.

If that is the case, then it's Boyd who had the problem - one person not liking you is one thing, but not being liked by rest of the cast is another.

But then do we have any real concrete proof of this - we're talking hearsay 33-36 years after the fact.

I think we can take Val at her word from that interview in 1982 that was linked a few posts ago.

Hey, it happens - not all casts get along

The proper term is "Spin Doctoring" :)

However, I take her word on this.

Again, if the rumors the rest of the cast didn't like him, then there's was a deeper issue issue - If there is a basis in truth, it could be nothing more than personality clashes (He being primarily a stage actor) either with just Val or most of the cast than hating. The Hollywood press does love a good tale of infighting.

It's things like that would make for a great truth behind the scenes interview with Norman and/or Patrica (who is still producing shows - she just finished up a 3 year run on the New ODD COUPLE and did the pilot for YEAR OF LIVING BIBLICALLY) and find out the story behind the story. For once something other than focusing on Mack's issues or Bonnie's control issues for a change. :)

Are we sure she got Scott "fired"/Not asked back? Did she say so in her book or is it just more hearsay. He only did 6 episodes as it is. (Plus the character continues to get mentioned for a season and a half as an "off-screen" presence - perhaps they should have recast?)

We just spinning rumors around without anything to back them up - surely there's got to be some old article or blurb from a reliable source (not the tabloids) to back this up, or shoot it down - independent from what Val said in 1982.

I think what makes it so fascinating is that Barbara and Mark was the show's "perfect couple" as apposed to what happen to Max and Julie and the idea that in real life the two actors had friction just makes it more colorful.

But then Vivian Vance couldn't stand William Frawley on I LOVE LUCY - but that's been heavily documented.

Now we're just reading into things trying to pick up cues that are not there...It's called "acting" folks.

BTW, they got the date wrong on the listing, it was stamped 1985 but has a date 2/17/1984 on the attached CBS release - announcing the March 7th broadcast ("Woman of the House")- the first on Wednesdays in that That darn "counter programming" slot with MAMA MALONE! Returning after a 3 week break following "Fifty" which came off of a 3 week break! All those preempted weeks before they split up Sunday's line-up which affected several other Sunday CBS shows...

Glenn was on for 3 seasons, so he was a regular on the series for 1/3 the run so hardly limited - and his seasons were some of the highest rated for the series in general. 60 episodes total over 3 seasons.

Mac was an original cast member and did 4 1/2 seasons before being fired the first time and 17 episodes over seasons 7-9 for a total of 123 over 209 shows .

That's all speculation at best.

As for the 2005 reunion special - they only had an hour/45 minutes to cover the series and they focused on the core cast. There's no way you could cover 9 seasons in a 45 minute show so they didn't cover that period. It clearly was an editorial decision.

Rumors of Val not liking Boyd or Bonnie being Bonnie (If you believe that TV Guide article from 1983 the time period - She was the one who said she should marry Sam.) are just that.

Again, we'll never know the real story behind the story.

There's no big conspiracy theory,etc...we're reading too much into it.

Well, only if SHOUT know about it, like the recovered unaired "All in The Family" pilots... "And Justice For All" and "Those Were The Days".

Let's hope they've done their research well.

Hope they have the unaired Season 9 ep. where Max meets and falls in love with the blonde at the duck pond!! :) Or the even rarer one where Max meets the jilted damsel in distress at the movie theater!!;) :D

Well, they included those (which were already on the Lear box set) and the two Maude episodes... I think they've done their research.

Something tells me Opus would buy the box set if the bottom pic was the actual cover.
