I recently discovered this song and am surprised it wasn't a bigger hit, it only reached #98 on Billboard. It has the sound of a hit and the lyrics are hysterical, typical Jim Stafford style of humor. The song was released only as a single, not part of an album, that might have been some of the problem, it's also possible that the record company did little or nothing to promote the song. Whatever happened is unfortunate because I think this deserved to be a much bigger hit.

In man/woman relationships, it's usually the woman who wants to take things slow, but this song tells the unusual tale of a man who freaks out whenever a woman makes advances.

Turn loose of my leg
I don't know you that well
Turn loose of my leg
In love with you I have not fell
I know what you want
Just forget it and remove your hand
Turn loose of my leg
I'm not that kind of man

I enjoy finding underappreciated songs like this, on my lists of favorite 1970's hits I included 10 songs that charted on the hot 100 but didn't make the top 40.

If you get The Captain and Tennille 3 DVD TV box set Jim Stafford dos this song on his episode. It is one of my favorites, although the whole box set is a lot of fun

Turn Loose Of My Leg was out as a single during late 1976/early 1977, that's the same period of time when Captain and Tennille's show was on, so it makes sense that Jim Stafford would perform the song on their show. Interesting information, thanks for sharing.

Didn't Jim Stafford also have a song called Spiders And Snakes? I didn't know that Jim Stafford sang a song called Turn Loose Of My Leg because the only song I've known of Jim Stafford was Spiders And Snakes which I had on a cd called Super Hits Of The 70's Have A Nice Day

Spiders And Snakes is the song Jim Stafford is probably most known for, it was his most successful Billboard hit, reaching the #3 spot although the song isn't a favorite of mine.

I'm not really a big fan of Jim Stafford's music but I like two of his songs, one is the tune we're talking about here, Turn Loose Of My Leg, the other one I like is his version of I Got Stoned And I Missed It, that song managed to make the Billboard top 40, reaching the #37 spot.

Jim Stafford's record making days were mostly in the 1970's, but he's had a long successful career and has his own theater in Branson Missouri where he and other artists perform shows.
