Mine would have to be I Love Lucy. My 2nd favorite is Leave It To Beaver.

LOL. I've heard that on "The Donna Reed Show", Donna Stone does her housework with pearls on too.

Hell, all the parents on those 50's shows were way overdressed.

Ward Cleaver probably wore a tie in the shower.

Barbara Billingsley wore pearls all the time because the producers thought her neck was too long.LOL. This is the straight truth!

Were you there in the 50s? How would you know if they were unrealistis then? If you want a realistis show watch Survivor! All sitcoms are unrealistic!

LOL JT on the Mary Stone comment! BTW, "Make Room for Daddy (1953-1957)/The Danny Thomas Show (1957-1964)" ran for seven years in 50s and TDTS years were eventually renamed MRFD in syndication.

Most shows were unrealistic in the 50s, but so are todays imo. Here are my favoritesf rom the decade, in no special order:

"Father Knows Best" (1954-1960, NBC/CBS)
"Dennis the Menace" (1959-1963, CBS)

"Leave it to Beaver" (1957-1963, ABC/CBS)
"The Honeymooners" (1955-1956, CBS)

okay, JT (you want to argue): not all sitcoms are unrealistic! shows from the 90s-00 are being more realistic. Examples: Cheers (very realistic, from 80s though), Roseanne (accept the last season, that was just a Roseanne mistake), The Ellen Show (realistic enough), Everybody Loves Raymond (good realistic family show)...there are many more!

See, all '50s sitcoms were the same. There was the working husband, and the stay-at-home mom. Let me remind you on Leave It To Beaver, Jude went to college, but she's a homemaker. Unrealistic! You don't see that on television anymore. In I love Lucy, everything was unrealistic, sneaking into famous people's houses, hiding under skinned bear fur, dressing up as Superman and climb out of your apartment window...

I'm not dogging '50s shows, stupid JT. I'm just asking which unrealistic '50s show was your favorite! And don't reply if you just want to diss me!

Were you in the 50s? That's what I hate about current sitcoms! They are all about the same thing! A group of 20-30 somethings living in the same area or working at the same place!!!! Thank god I have Reba and the rest of WBs Friday lineup!!! And her name is June. Don't say it was a typo. No. Barbara Billingsley was self conscious of a scar she had on her neck from a tracheotomy.

Actually, I think for the most part Leave It to Beaver is quite realistic. With the exception of a mother wearing a dress to do household cleaning.

Oh, and I know of women who have gone to college and despite that have become homemakers. It's not as uncommon as you may think.

i wasn't gonna say it was a typo. i made a little mistake in her name! and there are barely any current shows about 20-30 people always hanging out and work at the same place! If you are referring to "Friends", they all have different jobs.

Okay, the fact is that 1950's sitcoms were very unrealisticic! Look...

But shows of the 1950's had no black people, yes there were black people in the 1950's, looking at the Ozzie and Harriet, you wouldn't know. There was homosexuality. Looking at the a show like Leave it to Beaver ya wouldn't know that. Almost all women worked as housewives! It doesn't necessarily make them bad shows, but sitcoms atleast today, show a better potrait of what's going on today, then they did back then. Back then, t.v. wasn't aloud to do alot. Like sleeping in the same beds and couldn't even say the word 'pregnant'! I saw a special over entertainment back then, and almost everything was censorship. Im not trying to start a fight with you JT :)..Im just saying...That's my opinion.

People in the 50s dressed up more for any occasion that involved leaving the house. Men wore ties and jackets to many occasions that you wouldnt even dream of wearing them to now. Women dressed in dresses and skirts almost always when they went to any social function. I remember when I was a little kid in the late50s/early 60s, I had to wear a tie and jacket when I flew in an airplane.
Also compare the audiences in game shows from yesterday and today. The audience in today's Price Is Right would be thrown out of the studio of any Password or Ive Got A Secret taping for improper attire.
However, I do remember back then my mom and I laughing when I told her she should vacuum in a dress and high heels like Mrs. Cleaver.

Yes, there were aspects of "Leave it to Beaver" that were unrealistic - such as June doing her housework in a dress and wearing pearls. There were, however, other characteritics that made the show unique for its time:

It was the first sitcom about family life presented from the point of view of the kids, rather than the parents.

Eddie Haskell was the first "bad boy" on a sitcom, and was the forerunner to characters like Fonzie on "Happy Days", and Hyde on "That 70's Show".

In my opion no sitcom of today or the past has had anything realistic. For instance I Love Lucy is so unrealistic one thing is it is the 50's and people are very racist then. I doubt anyone would have treated Ricky so well.
Plus think of all the story lines on that show. So unrealistic.


But my favorite shows would have to be shows of the 80's like the Cosby Show and Cheers.

Shows of the 90's like Seinfeld (which I think is the most realistic show ever in television history) and Roseanne.

And current shows like Friends, Scrubs, and Will and Grace.

The shows of the 80's,90's, and current shows. Are the most realistic shows of today. They have different races, homosexuals, and working women, and single parents.

I just don't like most shows before the 80's but there are a few exceptions.

I believe whoever said that there were no blacks on sitcoms in
the 1950s is overlooking Amos 'N' Andy the FIRST all black sitcom
if I remember correctly.It was also one of the,for the period of
time,most controversial and the controversy was what killed it.

btw:People in the '50s did dress up a lot more.Just take a look
at a picture of any baseball game taken in the '50s and compare
with one taken today for example.
