Now if the network did show the 60s version of the JGS, what do you think it would be like? Would it be random clips attached together to form an hour long show like the network showed Ed Sullivan (complete with newly created commercial bumpers, closing credits etc.)? Would we get any 15 minute Honeymooners sketches? Would they show complete shows?

Tv would be edited. People edit now just b/c they can. The Adoption show mentioned above had edits on TVLand. Then there's rights, time limits, logos, ad space..

Streaming would be an option. Release a year or two at a time. Subscription site might cover rights costs, ease sync rights/blanket policies, reduce cost by eliminating physical media.

That said, I continue to retain several grand in an emergency fund, should some company decide to release the Gleason Show/American Scene completely on video. I would drop mega $$ to be able to screen complete episodes (bootleg or otherwise) on weekends.

These shows make me nostalgic for a time that I wasn't even around for. Is there a word for that?

I've seen 1/2 hour versions of The Jackie Gleason Show on independent stations, same as Ed Sullivan's syndication, so TV Land could've shown 1/2 hours back-to-back as it did for Sullivan.

I just purchased a 20 dvd set of mostly 1/2 hour syndicated versions of American Scene. Got the order in about a weeks turn around.
