She said she had she auditioned for two other shows and preferred those over Martin. Pam was originally for a fat girl.

She couldn't do anything for 10 years after Martin because everybody shoehorned her as Pam until Everybody Hates Chris. UPN/CW didn't want her but Chris Rock fought for her.

What a wonderful interview! Tichina Arnold is an underrated entertainer, as well as such a beautiful person inside and out! It's equally unfortunate that Tichina's proposed "Martin" spin-off never evolved past the backdoor pilot stage (the episode, titled "Goin' For Mine," aired near the tail end of "Martin's" fifth and final season)...thankfully, Tichina struck the jackpot again several years later with her role as Chris' loudmouth mother Rochelle on "Everybody Hates Chris."
