I loved Jerry Lewis! It's sad news, even as old as he was still sad! :( He will be very missed. I loved his silly movies as a kid, and seeing them now , he still makes me laugh! :D Not only a funny man, but a dear, sweet genuine man as well donating much of his time and positive energy into the telethons and good causes! :) ;)

RIP Mr. Lewis ! He is in heaven now joining up with his old time Sidekick Dean Martin! Along with the other men of that era. Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr., Joey Bishop , Milton Berle and the rest of the great entertainers from his day! ;)

RIP:(

He was one of the funniest actors around, especially in his solo work. And he was in innovator behind the camera.

Not to mention he turned in one of my favorite non-comedic performances in the Martin Scorsese film The King Of Comedy where he played against Robert DeNiro.

Definitely out of this world in the most wonderful way - an astronomical amount of laughter, and money to help kids. What a visit it was.

And I can't recommend enough, Jerry's book: Dean And Me: A Love Story

Years before Jerry started doing the MDA telethon, he would end his and Dean's hosting of the Colgate Comedy Hour by promoting awareness of MDA. So it was something he was close to for most of his adult life.:)

I hate to admit this, but I don't think I've ever seen a full Jerry Lewis movie. Not because I don't like him; for one, he honestly didn't make a ton of films and secondly, for whatever reason, they didn't play much in reruns in my area.

I associate him almost totally with the MDA telethon, and have great memories of trying to stay up all night to watch it (made it once). Despite his critics, I think he was motivated by compassion and kindness in trying to eliminate that terrible disease. Yeah, it got schmaltzy, but so what? He brought in the money, and to those who say "all those years and no cure?" I'd say that there were definitely great advances in the treatment of MDA and in the services to those afflicted with it. He did all he could and it is an absolute shame that he was removed as the spokesperson.

RIP Jerry. Thanks for caring about the kids (and the adults) afflicted with MDA. :rip:

As a kid one of my most watched of his movies was Family Jewels, where he played 7 parts. The little girl has to choose which one of her 6 uncles she wants to adopt her (seen below, the absent minded photographer uncle). The other part Jerry plays is the family chauffeur that takes her to visit the uncles.

Growing up, it was Abbott & Costello, and Jerry Lewis movies that I was raised on (as far as comedies went). Except Family Jewels, back then I preferred his movies with Dean Martin, though as an adult I lean more toward his solo work where went away from his 'man child' roles. His comedy became more sophisticated (for lack of a better word), I also grew to appreciate his talent as a writer and director. Probably now my favorite film of his is The Ladies Man. (My avatar is from that movie) The film besides being funny to watch, is also one of the more visually appealing films. Mainly the set of the boarding house, I think it was one of the largest sets built for a film, and it's amazing to behold on film

It also occurs to me that with Lewis' death, we may be at the point where there are no survivors from one of my all time favorite films, "It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World".

Granted, he had just a cameo, but still, he played a neat little role in it.

Have you ever seen his cartoon show? I've read about but have never been able to catch it. I think it was called "Will the Real Jerry Lewis Please Sit Down?"

I'm motivated to check out his films (sadly, this often happens when someone passed).

I haven't seen that, but have been meaning to check it out.

I'll recommend 4 films: The Ladies Man (Jerry at is solo best), Artists & Models (I think Dean and Jerry's best film), The Nutty Professor (being as it's probably his most iconic role), and The Delicate Delinquent (Jerry's first solo film, probably one of his most underrated)

He also had a long running comic book series. First The Adventures of Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis, which eventually changed to The Adventures of Jerry Lewis.

Though I'm a fan of the Martin side of Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis... this is a let-down...

I know his son Gary Lewis is still around... I wonder if he'd revamp the MDA telethon?

Jerry was the first to make a window cameo during an episode of Batman and the last surviving of the 14 that did so.

Both are good:) I especially love the spaghetti scene in The Disorderly Orderly.
Another very funny solo Jerry movie is Who's Minding The Store. With Jill St John and Agnes Moorehead. A lot of funny bits with Jerry doing odd jobs at the store.
