Back during its run, it was on practically every other station in syndication. And then of course, they actually show wrapped up on CBS and aired that polarizing (to put things kindly) finale (https://www.quora.com/What-TV-show-was-completely-ruined-in-one-episode/answer/Andrew-Fanton-2) where they killed off the titular mother (with the the twist being that the mother was nothing more than a footnote at the end of that extremely long winded tale), broke up Robin and Barney (whether or not they should've been together in the first place and how much sense it made is up for debate within itself) after spending the whole final season on their impending wedding, and then had Ted pining for Robin again.

While the show is still in reruns somewhere, it does seem to have faded from memory quickly. What doesn't help that most of the cast hasn't gone on to anything else.

Alyson Hannigan is hosting Penn & Teller's Fool Us, Jason Segel looks like he's homeless, and that guy that played Ted should just stay in hiding in perpetuity because his participation in that whole Ted nightmare is completely unforgivable.

I liked most of the show during its original run - mostly for Barney, Robin, Marshall, and Lilly, while Ted as just painful to watch for the most part. There is no way I could ever watch a single episode of the show ever again just because of how badly they ruined the entire premise of the show with the ending; the ending basically told us that "the mother" was a red herring and was just another brief failed relationship of Ted's - essentially no different from any of the countless others - and Ted is a completely unredeemable jerk not worth investing any more time or interest in.

We know. We loved this show too. HIMYM (http://screenrant.com/tag/how-i-met-your-mother/) had moments of brilliance, and Barney was awesome, and the cast was fantastic, but sometimes, a finale can render a viewer’s experience null and void, and that’s kinda what happened here (http://screenrant.com/awesome-tv-shows-worst-series-finales-last-episodes/).

When Cristin Milioti was cast as The Mother, we were beyond excited—and our excitement was met with an incredibly endearing performance from Milioti, who was perfect in the role. It was also met with a sobering realization (http://whatculture.com/tv/10-most-hated-tv-finales-of-all-time?page=11) that the show wasn’t really about her and Ted, or their love at all—she dies, and then Ted literally goes off and romances Robin. Again. After she has already rejected him a million times.

We get why this show is so popular. It was good times for awhile. But knowing how it all turned out, we can’t say it was time well spent.

The root of the problem with HIMYM's finale is that they wrote and shot a chunk of the core of the series finale during Season 1. They had to do it so that Ted's kids would be the right age, and they also did it because they had no way of knowing whether the show would get one season or several. It's a one-season-show-finale stapled to the end of a nine-season show.

A lot of HIMYM aged poorly basically the minute after it finished. Not just because the finale retroactively tainted the show, but Barney's characterization is beyond creepy (to the point in which he's at the very least, a borderline rapist). He talks about how alcohol is best to get women inebriated enough for sex, he brags about beating sexual assault lawsuits, and he says the only reason to wait a month to have sex with a girl is if she's 17 years and 11 months old.

The lead character is very douchey. In real life too.
