It's interesting that Lumpy had his college scholarship taken away because he got a D in Math. You would think the school (identified in the episode only as STATE) would have checked out Lumpy's grades before awarding him a scholarship!

His whole transcript would probably have been worse than Wally's, considering that he was left back earlier in high school.

That was a flaw. He would have had his grades all checked out before any thought of a scholarship was awarded. Just being a great football player wasn't enough.

One possible explanation would be that Lumpy was a borderline acceptable student at the time the scholarship was offered, and after that Lumpy's math grade went south. Big-time football schools like "State" offer scholarships before the last semester's grades have been finalized.

That's plausible.

That is a good explanation but what about Larry Hides Out?

Larry says he has his suitcase and he put it in the bushes. Wally gets his rope and Beaver goes outside to get the suitcase. Larry never says which bushes he hid the suitcase in but Beaver knows where to go and Wally puts his rope out the side window by the den. The house is surrounded by bushes.

I know Larry was smart enough to put it in the bushes by the boys' only window.

Wasn't he held back twice?
