View Full Version : Uh oh, multiple skipping problems on Rhoda Season Five

So far I've noticed two episodes where the episode abruptly jumps forward several seconds.

* Episode 2 ("In Search Of Martin"): Around the 2-minute mark, there are three separate jumps, with about ten to fifteen seconds dripping out.

* Episode 4 ("Brenda Gets Engaged"): A jump of maybe three to five seconds just before the 17-minute mark, and another jump of several seconds just before the 18-minute mark. Yet another skip of about 10 seconds just before the 18-minute mark.

I will post if/as I find more.

Very, very disappointing lack of quality control. This absolutely needs to be fixed, but I'm afraid Shout! might not take the trouble.

I don't think it's a DVD problem. It may be a mastering problem of the source material.

Yeah I noticed it too. The quality of the Rhoda series on DVD has been very shaky, but I'm still grateful to finally have all the seasons anyway.

I've also found more skips at the end of Episode 5, including during the closing credits.

I think it was a problem with the master tapes, as I noticed the Season 5 episodes that were uploaded onto YouTube long before the DVD set came out had skipping problems as well. Though there didn't seem to be as many on the DVD. Check out the Season 5 episodes on the YouTube Rhoda Morgenstern channel and see if you can notice the skips.

Just learned that Shout! Factory is pushing back the street date to October 17, 2017 to get new masters and fix this problem. As it turns out, this was a severe problem.

Bravo, Shout! That was the right call.

According from an email I got from Shout!, if you pre-ordered it from Shout!, they will send you a replacement once it is available. I'm not sure what the procedure is if you purchased it from Amazon or another third-party seller.

What about the Season 5 episodes aired on Nick At Nite or other syndicated outlets? How were those masters?

Shout! said that they are fixing the issues and the street date is now October 17. They will also be issuing replacement discs for those who ordered it.

I recorded all these episodes from Nick@Nite in 1996 and never noticed any problems. I am glad I didn't buy directly from Shout and will wait to get this in the store in October.

The replacements are at no cost since Shout is fixing their error and doing right by their customers.

I am still hoping they will put out a Complete Series and re-do Seasons 1 and 4 *which had frame rate problems*.

Got my replacement set today. Seems improved.
