I liked the show when I was a kid. While it wasn't a great, classic sitcom, I may check it out again.

This was coming soon for over a year and then the coming soon vanished for months. With the package art and all, yes it is coming soon again for real this time.

Wow, Angie, Rhoda and Alice all coming soon! I have been waiting a long time for all of these!

Ditto! It's shaping up to be a good year for fans of female-centric classic sitcoms.

I got my set in the mail this morning. Below is an excerpt from a review I started. I'm afraid it's bad news

The episodes are not remastered, and are the same prints that ran on TV Land in the late 1990s. But that isn’t the worst of it. Of the 36 episodes on the set, only 7 of them are uncut versions that run around 24:40. The remainder are all syndication versions that have been cut to 21:40. There’s a disclaimer about the masters being the best they had to work with, but nothing about the edits, so if you are a stickler, consider this a warning. This show is not exactly high-profile so I’m afraid we fans are going to have to live with this set, because there isn’t going to be another ANGIE release—just accept what IS here and enjoy some mild nostalgia.

21:40 is rather short for editing even for CBS Television Syndication (Who owns the Paramount TV Library) where the average is 22:10 - 22:30 for syndicated versions of half-hour shows in their library.

I wonder if the 21:40 are ABC Daytime edits from the 1985 summer run?

The episodes are missing around 3 minutes of scenes. The picture quality looks ok but since they are edited ...I am going to wait for it to be put on sale during the Christmas Holidays. I am not paying $30 plus for edited episodes.

This is disappointing. I just consider this better than nothing. It is a good idea to wait for a sale. I almost always wait for sales/promotions etc. My DVD collection is much larger based on waiting for the price to come down, rather than paying top dollar for everything. There's only so much money to go around or that I am willing to spend.

So, other than the editing, how is everyone enjoying the series?

Kasey

It's nice to see for nostalgia. The cast are better than the material though. The scripts are just average, and it plays now like a blander version of RHODA, IMO. Still glad they finally released it.

Mine is supposedly coming today so I am happy. I am sort of upset that many episodes are edited but at this point we may never see this show in any other kind of release. We sort of have to accept it for what it is. Considering the prices of several complete collections out there, this one is pretty cheap. Sister Sister and The Parkers are twice that price (when they were first released, the price was over 100 dollars for each set) on the VEI website and neither one of those shows are as good or even considered classic.

I have a 3 day weekend coming up so watching this will kill most of that time. I am perplexed by the editing though. Why is this set filled with episodes that are roughly 21 minutes and 20 or so seconds, when typical syndicated prints are roughly 22 minutes and about 15 or so seconds. That is an additional minute and a few seconds taken from each episode.

How long did the episodes run on TV Land and wherever else Angie ran in syndication? I am trying to figure out if they used the same prints or had to do some additional editing for content.

I assume these VEI titles eventually will show up on Retailer's websites? If so I wonder how long it takes? I am surprised that it has not shown up anywhere. I have purchased VEI titles from Amazon before. Does anyone have any idea or thoughts about this?

I really don't have much opinion on why it is not available elsewhere. It is affordable and ships fast provided by VEI so I can't speak to that.

It will probably eventually show up on other websites, but it may be a VEI exclusive at the moment.

I believe that Angie will and could be rereleased if Shout Factory had it and they do not disappoint they a great job with Rhoda so who knows

09-02-2017, 07:56 PM
Shout Factory is our only hope to rereleased Angie and I trust them more then any other studio write wherefore I know that they will listen so whomrever said that this will be the last time that Angie will be rereleased I disagree by the way is original blue mountain paramount logo on the DVD

AngieTribeca

Angie is a wonderful show but isn't popular enough to warrant another DVD release. Shout Factory or any other company wanting to rerelease this set would need to see a big demand before they went ahead and did that.

studd911
09-02-2017, 09:01 PM
I disagree because look at Rhoda WKRP Green Acres and other classic shows and look at what they have done Shout Factory will take this classic show if they see allot of request

AngieTribeca
09-03-2017, 05:52 AM
There are differences with the shows you listed. Green Acres was released and production of the DVDs stopped after season 3. Of course collectors and fans of the show would demand the releases to continue to complete their collection. The other shows you mentioned were not previously released or stopped being produced after one season.

I agree that Shout Factory releases rare and classic stuff but no so much rereleases material that is already out there.

We would need a company like Mill Creek to step in if we were hoping for a rerelease of Angie.

Either Mills Creek or Shout Factory would take on shows like this I trust them more than any other studio

VEI did not give us a horrible release, it just wasn't ideal for us fans. For nostalgic purposes, this release definitely fills that void, but not so much for completionists.

If this show was still airing on TV, I would have totally skipped this release, but since I haven't seen it in years and only have handful of horrible quality recordings from syndication, I took a chance on this set.

I am always impressed by rare shows being released because several of them seem like they will never be released. I am still waiting for The Hogan Family and Empty Nest to hit DVD finally.

Hey I was on the shout Factory websites and I was already seeing some post about classic shows such as one day at a time and other shows as I told you all asked and it shall be given and I honestly believe if shout Factory can obtain the original master footage of Angie they might have a better chance here is their request web www.shoutfactory.com start if you all decided to do so in letting shout Factory know of what you want to. See they won't know unless you tell them again this is my only a suggestion take the chance and see what happens

VCI has a current contract for several shows from the CBS holdings of the old Paramount Television Library, including ANGIE and other upcoming shows. SHOUT! even if they wanted to couldn't reissue the series.

We're going to have to be satisfied with what VCI has put out.

Again I disagree with that because look at what shout Factory has done and nobody hasn't had any complaints again and I am going to make a prediction if and when Shout Factory obtained another classic show like one day at a time I will come on this page and say I told you all so but we will see

That's a bummer if the Angie set has edited episodes. VEI isn't the greatest studio for TV show DVD's. I wasn't that pleased with their Cannon complete series set, overall the set is OK but a few things could have been done better. One example: Season five of Cannon has a two part episode, the second part is a crossover episode with Barnaby Jones, so what VEI did was put part two on their Barnaby Jones set but didn't include it on the Cannon set.

On the Cannon set that I received, one of the DVD's was defective, I reported it to VEI and they mailed me a new disc to replace the defective one, so I'll give them credit for that.

I am not going to pick on VEI too much. They haven't issued the best versions of these shows on DVD but they are at least getting these classics on DVD.

They will always have a warm spot in my heart for releasing Gimme a Break to DVD in the uncut format. No music was cut and the quality was pretty decent.

I was not impressed with Grace Under Fire, Sister Sister and The Parkers, but these shows were not getting released by any other studios.

I would much rather these studios to keep releasing untouched classics than wasting time reissuing other sets. We have all the time in the world for reissued Angie and Alf DVD sets.

In the meantime let's get Diff'rent Strokes completed on DVD as well as VEI's promised release of Evening Shade.

As I had predicted and I had told all of you that if Shout Factory obtained a complete series of one day at a time it was going to happen and like I said I told you so now with that being said nobody cannot tell me that classic shows don't matter and I told you when a show is demanded by the people they have spoken and I told you letters and petetion works and shout factory has proven themselves time an time again the bottom line is this if you want Angie in DVD in its original broadcast format I would suggest that y'all will send your letters to shout factory and let them work their magic

Does anybody now believe that Shout Factory can save as well as at least try to rereleased Angie on. dvd I believe they can and will those who are fans are requesting it I told you all time time and time again that I rather depend on Shout Factory then any other studio that Is just me

Kasey
09-09-2017, 02:11 PM
Shout Factory is a business and they would have no interest in re-releasing a product that was just put out by another studio (which they can't anyway, since VEI has the contract with CBS for these shows, not Shout) because it makes no business sense. They would rather use their resources to bring out something else that has yet to be released like The Drew Carey Show, etc.

studd911
09-09-2017, 03:09 PM
Time and time wherefore you don't get it and yet again I disagree so harshly you must didn't read my post where I clearly said that if a classic show is damanded a company like Shout Factory will deliver and you just don't get it so please with all due respect don't tell me that a outside studio will not take a chance on non of these
classic TV shows you totally don't get it and you had mentioned one day at a time Shout is releasing the complete series as I had predicted and it's coming out before the holidays why because the fans had damanded it so again you struck out yet again

AngieTribeca
09-10-2017, 04:13 AM
studd911 we appreciate your optimism but we are simply being realistic about a possible rerelease. No amount of copy and paste responses from you will change that. We get your point but things do not always work in the way you outlined in your continuous replies.

One Day at a Time has gotten a new life through recent syndication on Antenna TV and Logo so the show is getting a lot more viewers and there is now more of a demand for the show to be on DVD. Shout Factory is not in the business of rereleasing shows unless they are doing the complete series of a show that stopped being produced on DVD after a few seasons. They have to redo those seasons for the purpose of making a complete set.

We respect your opinion but the likelihood of Angie getting another release is extremely far fetched.

In regards to shows like Married With Children and Mama's Family, rereleases were heavily demanded. No one wanted the complete series of Married with Children without the original theme and Mama's Family was so popular and anticipated that no one was accepting the edited versions released the first time.

Angie does not have that sort of following so another release is not high on any studio's priority list. The same theory applies to other shows as well, as much as fans want a rerelease of Alf, no studio is going to take a chance on that one either because it is not popular enough to warrant another release.

He seemed like a good guy. He was on the Fall 1979 Battle of the Network Stars where he won the swimming relay for ABC *he swam the last anchor leg*. I used to have it posted on YouTube but they shut down my channel a few years ago because I had too much rare TV stuff on there. So, sorry you can't see him in Speedo :)

Well, Studd (is this Big John or The Diamond...? ;-)) I hear the Blue Mountain is intact. Which is one plus of VEI's imperfect sets. They also saved the V of Doom on the Cannon set, apparently. That much beats CBS's whitewashing of other companies.
