The Goldbergs are in for a Weird [Science] season premiere.
Ilan Mitchell-Smith, who starred opposite Anthony Michael Hall in the seminal 1985 film, will guest-star as a teacher named Mr. Connelly in the ’80s film-themed Season 5 premiere on Wednesday, Sept. 27, at 8/7c, TVLine has learned exclusively.
In addition, World Champion pro-wrestler Bill Goldberg will guest-star as Coach Mellor’s brother in an episode slated to air later this fall.

Hopefully Coach Mellor's brother can have a regular role in the spinoff as well for the 90s spinoff. Hope ABC hasn't given up on it

The Goldbergs returned with its 5th season premiere (http://forums.previously.tv/topic/62008-s05e01-weird-science/?do=getLastComment) last night (yes, it’s been 5 years already!), and the episode does what the show always does best: Turn Barry into an ass before lovingly redeeming him; create conflict over separation anxiety between Beverly and one of her kids before the kid acknowledges how much better it is to have an overly affectionate mom instead of a neglectful one; and get Rowan Blanchard involved as much as possible.
It’s a great show, and a great episode, and it centered on one of my favorite movies growing up (https://lebeauleblog.com/2015/08/03/80s-nerd-comedy-smackdown-weird-science-vs-real-genius/), Weird Science (https://lebeauleblog.com/2015/08/02/totally-awesome-facts-you-need-to-know-about-weird-science/). Dear God, how I loved Kelly LeBrock (https://lebeauleblog.com/2015/05/15/what-the-hell-happened-to-kelly-lebrock/) in the 1980s.
There was also a cameo in the episode from one of the co-leads from Weird Science (https://lebeauleblog.com/2015/01/17/movies-of-1985-bracket-game-the-goonies-vs-weird-science/):

That, folks, is Ilan Mitchell-Smith, a frequent presence on those “Where are they now?” lists. He’s better known to Weird Science (https://lebeauleblog.com/2015/01/20/movies-of-1985-bracket-game-back-to-the-future-vs-weird-science/) fans as Wyatt Donnelly, and I may not have recognized him but for the fact that I’ve seen that movie at least a dozen times.

Ilan Mitchell-Smith hasn’t appeared onscreen since a 1991 episode of Silk Stalkings. He is, however, doing very well for himself. He’s a professor of Medieval studies at California State University, Long Beach, where he has published on cinematic, television, and video game versions of medieval culture. He also writes about Dungeons and Dragons.
In other words, he’s doing just fine in civilian life.
