One of the great all time love songs.
RIP, Michael Johnson.
One of the best breakup songs ever recorded. I am playing it over again it is so poignant and powerful.
Bonniegirl 07-26-2017, 11:10 PM Ahhhh!! Sad to hear !!:( I LOVED that song!!! It reminds me of my Mom, because it was a popular song when I was young and still living at home. :) My Mom loved this song and I remember it playing on the radio so I ended up loving it too!
RIP Michael Johnson
JO Sweet Heart 07-26-2017, 11:21 PM I love his duet with Alison Krauss.

I know this is Michael Johnson's thread so I don't mean any disrespect bringing up another singer !;) But my Dear Mother who has passed away a few years ago and another one of her favorite songs from a favorite singer of hers that I always associate with my Mom when I hear it is "After the lovin'" from Engelbert Humperdinck ! :) These songs were from the same era, and me as a teenager LOVED my Rock music, so these songs were like kind of slow and as I said my Mom loved them, but I got to love them too! And Now when I hear them it TOTALLY brings great memories of my Dear Mom!! :)

What a wonderful singer Engelbert is/was. After listening to that song it puts one in a very romantic frame of mind.
1960'sTVfan 07-27-2017, 10:05 AM Sorry to learn Michael Johnson passed away. :( Bluer Than Blue isn't a favorite of mine but I like his other 70's hit This Night Won't Last Forever.
Engelbert Humperdinck, After The Lovin, that one isn't a favorite of mine either but my mom used to like it also.
Three songs from Engelbert that I like are The Last Waltz, Les Bicyclettes De Belsize, and Winter World Of Love. Three classic tunes and all three were written by the Mason/Reed songwriting team.
I love his duet with Alison Krauss.

biffbronson 07-28-2017, 10:08 AM Sorry to hear of his passing. From Bluer Than Blue:
"I don't have to miss no TV shows...."
Back in those years I was listening to WLS radio out of Chicago.
Tumbleweed1980 08-14-2017, 10:30 PM That's sad news. I was lucky enough to see him perform at a small bar in Palmer several years ago. He played guitar and sang a bunch of great songs that night. I had a chance to talk to him during his break and he was so friendly and fun to talk with. I asked him about the duet he recorded with Sylvia and how that came about.
Besides his duet with Sylvia, "I Love You By Heart", my other favorites of his are, "Gotta Learn to Love Without You", "I Will Whisper Your Name" and his beautiful Christmas recording of "New Kid in Town". That's one of my most favorite Christmas recordings of all-time.
